Yea if you did not like the books, you would not like the movies, especially the ones that stuck so close to the book.

The series definitely gets darker as it moves along, I think it progresses well and matures with the characters.

Strange. Nobody seems to like PoA, but that was actually my favorite. It was my favorite book too (I haven't read anything past Goblet yet though). I was really disappointed in GoF (the movie). I guess that's to be expected though. It would be difficult to turn an 800 page book into a 2-3 movie without cutting a ton. It's my daughter's favorite of the movies though. I need to read OotP before we go see that.

Re: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

        **SPOILER WARNING**

I thought the movie was very well done and enjoyed it. That said, it ran for under two hours according to my watch. There was a HUGE lack of actual information about, well, everything. If you had not read OotP and the rest of the series recently, you would be completely lost. There was nothing given on the members of the order, who they were or anything about them. Very little background. Percy and his split from the family was completely ignored. Ron and the Gryffindor Quidditch situation, and Quidditch entirely for that matter, was gone. Nothing. I think they needed to focus more on Umbridge's personal hatred towards Harry, not just that she was a huge bitch to the whole school. Another big thing missing is that it was Cho's friend who squeeled to Umbridge about their defense league, not Cho herself.

I liked the overall fight at the end and thought that whole bit was done pretty well. However, the aftermath when Dumbledore explains everything to Harry is broken down to about three sentences. No mention on that it was Trewlany making the prediction to Dumbledore or why Voldemort wanted it. Again, if you don't vividly recall OotP then there will be many unanswered questions.

I just got back and it was alright. It was a lot darker than the other movies and set things up for the next two but like DK said, they left out a lot of information.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

What trailers/teasers were played before the movie?

I remember one for a movie with Steve Carell, one for some hilarious asian ping pong tournament comedy, something about 10,000 BC (that may be the title), one about Santa's brother, and probably a couple others I can't remember

The movie your talking about with Steve Carrell is Get Smart. I'm excited for that movie, i think he's perfect for the part.

Anyway, i'm about to see this movie in IMAX 3D. I heard the last 20 mintues is in 3d, so i'm pretty excited especially hearing that this is an epic battle scene.

Its funny, I had not read the book in a couple years so I really enjoyed the movie because I did not realise everything they left out from the post above. My wife has never read the books and loved it.

Maybe that is why I dislike PoA so much, I read the book right before I went to see the movie and was really disappointed in how they handled everything.

I loved this movie, but they did leave a lot out.

I think the key to liking this movie is not to read the book first. lol I thought it was as good, if not better than PoA which had been my favorite. I didn't read either of the books before seeing the movies, so that might be why. I didn't like GoF, but I also read that book before seeing the movie. I suppose I might look back and feel differently after reading OoTP, but I thought the movie was pretty good on its own merits. It flowed well and I never found myself bored watching it.

Most importantly, we are under a week away from Deathly Hallows. I have been waiting a long time for this. I couldn't tell you how many times I've reread each book in the series.

I need to read some of the books again. I own all of them except Half Blood Prince(although I've still read it a few times) but I haven't read any of my other ones since Half Blood Prince.

Yea, same here. I re-read OoTP and then went and saw the film, which I thought was 'ehh', but I think it might've been because I JUST re-read the story. I was in the theatre literally picking out everthing that was left out of the film from the book..lol

Overall I enjoyed it though, especially the last scene. The fight was done very well IMO.

I just finished re-reading HBP today in preperation for Deathly Hallows so I guess I'm ready. I'm both excited and sad about the last book though (mostly excited), because after this one it's over

                            ...so J.K. says...never know though

I saw it last night and I thought it was really good. I could see that there was a ton left out but i felt that it still worked pretty well. Maybe its because i haven't read the book in a while too. The fight scene was pretty awesome. It was really well done overall, especially the frequent flashbacks in the movie. The actor that plays Harry is becoming pretty good. He really carried the movie more than the others.

I really enjoyed the movie. It could be because I haven't read the book in two years or so...but it's also because I have no expectations of the movie being as good as the book. I can't remember one movie that was as good as the book, so I completely, intentionally, forgot the book.

The final battle may have been one of the most powerful twenty-five minutes in a movie I can remember. Granted, it could be because I'm a Harry Potter fan and a nerd at heart...but damn.

Transformers and this movie have saved the summer movie scene after S3 and POTC3 didn't live up to my expectations.
