Google Maps: Street View - Big brother gets a little closer...

Have you tried this out yet?

Search any address using Google Maps. Once you've found an address, you'll see an option to view some locations as if you're actually there. It's called "Street View."

While this isn't live... it's updated frequently according to Google. If this ever were to become "Live," privacy as we know it would hit an all time low.

Wow--that is somewhat creepy, but as heavily surveilled as most major cities already are, I'm glad "new" technology pulls back the curtain.

This is exactly what I thought. Soon, there will be little flying cameras following us around and you can't avoid them.

So far this feature is only for 4 or 5 cities. (NYC, Boston, San Fran, and I think Philly) Obviously it's an intrusion but at least it's only in public places. It's not like they've got cameras in your house!

Still....I don't like this.

I don't know what there is to be alarmed about. For the most part it would be public places and points of interest. I've never been to downtown SF or Boston. It's really cool and that's a amazing tool to offer you the opportunity to explore their downtowns.

They already have aerial views of your house with google maps, having a street view is ridiculous. Of course it isn't going to start in residential areas but it'll soon move over to them.

Don't worry, it can't become live. Apparently they did it by installing a panoramic camera on top of a van and just drove around. So unless they deploy thousands of these vans around or install cameras all over the place, you don't have to worry about it being live.

they need to do a touch of updates, at least on major cities....take Chicago......Zoomed in on Soldier's Field, and.......well.........it's not done yet......so....the info is well over a few years old
