Great looking phone... but not many can justify spending $600 for a phone... especially with many already owning an ipod.

Would I want to ditch my ipod for less space, and purchase a phone for a lot of money, while spending even more money to cancel my contract I already have...?

For $400, most likely... $500/$600.... not likely... at all...

I'm justifying it because I have been holding out for a long time on ipod, just because I knew this was coming.


Couple that with a TRUE mobile internet browser, and I can justify the price.

Can I ask... what do you use your phone for? Simply talking? (Not trying to belittle your usage, FYI)

I don't see a problem spending a large amount of money like that if you really use all of its capabilities. I mean, you use your phone all the time, right? And what if that phone had GPS, let you check your email whenever, internet access so you could buy/sell on ebay.... and so forth...

And what kind of phone do you have that you spent so little on? I never liked the razr... it seems like such a low priced phone but the build quality/software was absolutely cheap and terrible. Still is... but it sells like crazy b/c it's "thin."

I have a Samsung Blackjack which my work paid for (so I guess I really don't pay for a phone at all). Just use it for calls and receiving my exchange email and google mail. It also has internet access and all that great stuff.

I have some Motorola phone with Verizon. I make calls on it. No Internet, no email. I do have a texting plan as I text with people, but that's the extent.

Well not everyone can have their job pay for their phone... and that's a nice little phone. I love the screen.

You should keep in mind however that your phone is worth $324.99... $174.99 to lock yourself in a 2 yr. plan (something that I would rather pay a premium for so I don't have to stay stuck with a company). So if you wanted it yourself, you'd be paying less but would have to stay with AT&T and that phone for 2 years at least... unless you bought another phone (at retail price) or canceled your contract (which usually has your provider hit you with a cancellation fee of about $175).

Yeah, if you just use your phone talking/texting, you don't really need an expensive phone. But when you start watching movies on it, listening to music, playing advanced video games... it gets a little pricey.

EDIT1: Great video.

Just now watching the part about the earphones that come with every iphone (similar to those that come with ipods), but this one featues a mic that goes down one of the wires, allowing you to be listening to your ipod and take calls without ever taking the earphones out.

EDIT2: Google Maps will have live traffic conditions built in to it.

It's sad that branding is everything in this day and age.

It's Apple, it's an iThing, so people are going to flock towards it whether or not there's a better product on the market.

Some people act like touch screen is pioneered by Apple or something. Touch screen is nothing new and neither is the whole turn-the-screen landscape sensor thing; it's on plenty of other PDAs and handheld products. Apple just managed to dress up the interface a bit better. The battery time is nothing to be impressed about either, especially being a phone+MP3+video player.

And no 3G. I don't think I need to say anymore about that.

Oh, and no swappable battery is a pain; I can just think of so many situations where that'll come back and bite people in the butt. No expansion slots. 2megapixel camera?! Geez. And Apple is considered a revolution in the industry? Are you joking me?

Considering all that versus the price, it's not worth it at this moment.

There are definitely some drawbacks to it.

Not if it requires some other piece of Apple junk software to view it :P. Only VLC media player for me to handle video files ... if that excludes RealMedia and QuickTime videos then so be it.

And I forgot to add that everytime I see Apple branded headphones I really want to rip them apart .

Talk about finding a reason to hate the thing... solely because it's made by Apple. There's always someone.

Please, be so kind to share with us a device that incorporates all of that, with a wonderful UI to boot? Simplicity is part of its beauty... I love it when things just work.

You dont even have a quicktime viewer installed on your computer?

I dont want to clutter the iphone thread, but i really want to hear your experience on what has soured you towards apple. Feel free to PM me.






In other news, after watching this video, there is no doubt that I will be lined up next friday to get my hands on an iphone.
