I have an Otterbox Commuter. It has great protection and not nearly as bulky as the Defender is.

I stopped using my case last week. It really is liberating. Just feels better, and is much slimmer in my pocket. Hopefully my sure-handedness will continue to serve me well.
The EAGLES Are The Most Dominate Team In The NFC Beast And The Best Team In The League, I Will BLEED GREEN For The Rest Of My Life, So To Any Team Who Thinks They Can Test Us Then If You Want Some Then Come Get Some. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a thin rubber case. Don't know if it actually protects it any better but I like it. Makes be feel better. To me The iPhone naked is too slippery.
Do you really care where I sent this from?
MLB: Texas Rangers
Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
NCAA: SMU, UTA
NFL: Dallas Cowboys
NHL: Dallas Stars
NBA: Dallas Mavericks
I've broken every phone I've ever had. I have to keep mine in the big bulky, rubbery, case. I'd prefer not, but I'm terrible with phones. It fits fine in my pockets as I wear baggy stuff.
Don't think my Vita, in a case, will fit though.

I have never used a case with my 3GS. Once it was in my back pocket while running and it bounced out and landed on the concrete side walk. Picked it up and it was just fine.
In fact, I know some one who works at Apple in San Francisco and he stated the phone is designed to be used without a case and that he doesn't use one either. I mean really, how much protection are you really getting from a centimeter of plastic/rubber?
I think it has more to do with the phone being scraped on a fall. That's a valid concern, IMO.
But again, the case isn't necessary if you don't want one. Although some cases really do increase the aesthetic appeal of the device. SGP makes some of the nicest looking cases on the market and I love Neo. However I continue to go back and forth with and without a case.
Is there an app that is good for searching through text messages?
I am one of those people who hasn't deleted a text since I got my phone. Which has to be in the tens of thousands.
With some people if I have to go back more then a month it takes a long time for them to load. Me and someone were trying to go back to the start, which is September 2010 and after about an hour we were still in 2011.
I figured there might even be something to put on the PC that will let me load them all and see everything.

All the people I know have cases because they've learn their lessons from the glass cracking which seems to happen often

i can't test this because i have it turned off for everything, but have you tried the built in search on the iphone? (swipe to right from first home screen)
Can someone drop a link or quick info on how exactly I could make my iPhone a WiFi or 3G Hotspot for my Laptop?
I've been using these Verizon MiFi hotspots and quite frankly they suck. Constantly dropping in and out. Always having trouble finding a connection. Sometimes, the network is found, but I get a warning that I have "No Internet Access" (How does that happen?).
So I want to dump them and look into new hotspots or possibly just converting my iPhone into one. I know it can be done, but I thought I read somewhere that AT&T will charge a ridiculous fee?
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Good for them?
Pay attention on the subway - plenty of people with and plenty without. Doesn't make a difference - if you want to be an idiot with your phone without a case, it may break. We're talking common sense here.

Hey hey hey, now. I'm not an idiot here. Just clumsy!

ATT and Verizon will charge you $20/month for the ability to tether.
The less legit method, involves Jailbreaking and buying MyWi for $20 (one time fee). If you overuse this though, you may get caught. I use this occasionally without issue.
You know tethering will kill your battery fast, right? I have a VZW 4G MiFi - yes you are correct, sometimes it loses the signal and a reboot is necessary, but generally I freakin' love that device.
