I think people didn't get that wow feeling because it wasn't an action driven movie. Scarface was more in your face intense. This movie moved slower but I think told a better more complex story.

Where? All I noticed was RZA's Wu-Tang tat.

Anyway, great movie. Its certainly not an epic film like Godfather, it has a classic feel to it, but not necessarily a classic film. Obviously a lot of social/political commentary that won't be allowed to discuss here, but I thought it blurred the line enough to keep Frank from being completely unlikable in the context of the film.

Pretty good movie. I didn't find it on the level of a movie like Goodfellas though.

Personally, I'd put it above Godfather/Goodfellas, but that is probably because I find those to be two of the more overrated movies I have ever seen.

Actually, I sorta feel like you guys do about this movie...I thought they were good, but not great...

This movie better win some awards. If The Departed(which I loved) can win Oscars then there's no way that this can't win anything.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I can't figure out which one I liked better. They're both really great movies, imo.

I agree although I'll rate this a bit higher since Denzel is one of my favorite actors.

I thought The Departed had a better cast, overall, but I thought Denzel was a much better mob boss than Jack.

Did not like the movie thought it was very bland.

Washington was working with a bad script
Crowe's character could have been any actor. he brought nothing compelling to the role. Almost the same character study in The Brave One and terance howard did a amazing job with how he dead panned it.
                          the cinematography was very average.

Just really upset with the movie.

washington is always good which makes every movie of his watchable but crowe was not a draw and actually had his worst acting in this

Yeah, I didn't think Crowe's performance was anything to mention. It was good, but certainly not great. I thought he did a much better job in 3:10 to Yuma.

I think I enjoyed The Departed better. I enjoyed this movie, but not as good as I was hoping.

They were both essentially cat and mouse mvies, but the Departed had a lot of twists and turns. American Gangster was very bland with no close calls or any really intense moments.
