Yeah, ditto on that. I thought from watching that ending that it seemed like a series finale, more than a season finale. I'll bet we never get a season two.

Well, I loved last night's episode, I loved the season. I won't be so pretentious as to act like I understand everything about the show, as I really believe that at this point, it's meant for the audience to be confused for the most part. In fact, that's part of the appeal of the show for me, and why, if it gets a second season, I will continue to watch.

I do have my own little thoughts, however; little incomplete theories that go through my head when I watch it. There's a lot of symbolism on the show, some is apparent, some is not so apparent. When I first started watching, I figured John from Cincinnati was like an acronym for Jesus Christ. I kind of figured that the lead character, John, was the representation for the persona. I still think the title is an acronym, but I don't think John the character is the representation of him....or maybe I do. It's confusing.

Okay, in the New Testament, there were at least two notable Johns. One was John the Baptist, the other was John the Disciple, the one who Jesus loved and by some to be the same John of the Book of Revelations. Both had this one thing (not the only but this one is very notable) in common; they both announced the comings of Christ. The Baptist announced the first coming, the Beloved announced the second and (like the John from the show) a certain impending doom upon the world.

My thoughts are jumbled and tend to float around especially when I decide to sit down and type it out, I will try my best to get this out in a coherent manner though.

About 2-3 episodes ago I got the feeling that John was announcing Shaun as some sort of second coming, as if Shaun were the Christ. This parallels also Shaun being announced as the second coming of sorts of the Yost surfing family (which includes a "trinity" of sorts in himself, Mitchie and Butchie). It also seemed to me that the various cast members were being set up to be followers or disciples of sorts. Maybe not exact replications of the 12 disciples of the Bible, but followers nonetheless; although I am pretty sure that if one were to go and study the characters of both mediums, one would be able to find at least some coincidental parallels.

Then theres Cass's camera containing my Father's words and "the Internet is BIG". It seems to me that Cass's camera is a modern version of the Bible, containing record of Jesus's miracles(Shaun being brought from "death") and works (I imagine the surfing is a symbol of works somehow). By using the Internet in conjunction with Cass's camera, his Father's words are being spread throughout the world and the message of impending doom is being made known to all, similarly to how Jesus told his disciples to spread his Father's words. In the Book of Revelation, there is also instances of "words" being spread to the "four corners of the Earth".

There is also attempted conversions. John tells Linc that he needs to "get in the game" and that Mitchie needs to "get back in the game". The game on the surface being surfing, but if the allegory is correct then the game is some divine path or in other words a religion. Butchie hasn't used drugs since meeting John. Freddy, the drug dealer, has been affected by the Yosts and now wants out of the drug game and seemingly into whatever "game" the Yosts are into. Cissy remains a work in progress, but was shown forgiveness in the episode where she was going to attempt suicide.

The gay landlord, Barry, was sexually abused by the dead guy in room 24 as a child. I think his fears were that he would in turn do the same thing to a child but in the midst of the season that spirit or fear was "exorcised" from him somehow. Again, I am having a very hard time trying to put my thoughts into words.

I still have no idea why Mitchie levitates. Maybe he is the representation of "My Father" and the levitation is a symbol of him being "higher" than the rest, or maybe just "above" what his current actions, lifestyle, thought process would indicate. I still have no clue about the lawyer getting sexed down by his wife or what the exact role is of the webmaster with the lisp and the Latino tenant who cooks all the time. Actually, this may all just be a bunch of jumbled up nothingness and I have no idea what's going on. But that's some of what I got from the season. Please don't flame me, it's just my opinion. I am very much looking forward to another season for more answers.

That's a great analysis because it's pretty much what I thought too but on some things you talked about it was more than what I thought and really made sense.

I second Odogg's opinion of your analysis. I couldn't imagine anyone flaming you for it. This show confused me throughout it's first season run, and I still say it's strenght was it's rich characters and heart, but maybe there's also dynamic storyline similiar to your theories waiting to gell in Season 2 (hopefully).

Good post trob. I read some similar thoughts and it makes sense. I hope there is a Season 2 as they left too much hanging, but you never know. I love all of the characters, and the way they act when they interact with each other.

I have found myself saying JC! JC! in jest like Bill Jax does at times. LOL

Hopefully we get a Season 2.
