The new "Frat Pack" in Hollywood

The quality of films from Vaughn/Ferrell/Wilson Brothers/Stiller have gone down the past couple of years. I feel like a new frat pack has emerged.

This group mostly comes from Knocked Up/40 Year Old Virgin/Freeks and Geeks/Undeclared/The Office and a few others.

    You got:

Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jason Segal, Martin Starr, Craig Robinson, Ken Jeong, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, and Jay Baruchel.

A part of me wants to include Steve Carell and Michael Cera.

Directors/Writes/Producers: Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Jason Segal, Evan Goldberg, and Paul Feig

If you like this group, there's a lot of good stuff coming.

Later this summer we have Superbad coming out.
And then early next year we have Fanboys.

I already can't wait for the 2008 Summer movie season because The Pineapple Express and Forgetting Sarah Marshall are coming out.

Those guys are really funny but I'd take the original "frat pack" over them. Ben Stiller's new movie looks funny. Blades of Glory was funny. Wedding Crashers was a classic. The Wilson brothers aren't funny. Owen needs Stiller or Vaughn to carry him, and Luke doesn't star in comedies.

Ridiculous-Wilson's comedic talent is unique in it's own right and Shanghai Noon and The Wedding Crashers don't get off the ground without him.

I agree Owen Wilson is pretty good and I still look for their movies when they come out. Luke is eh...

I think the quality of comedies has been on a downward slope.

The intelligent humor is really gone...and in it's place I get jokes about having sex with farm animals. Which don't get me wrong, is funny...but only for a short while.

I haven't seen Knocked Up or Blades of Glory...but neither of them really look that funny to me.

But hey, the comedy is selling, and that's all it needs to do.

Completely disagree but it's your opinion.

There is no Wedding Crashers without Owen. He was just as much a part of that movie as Vaughn. How you can disagree with that is simply beyond me.

I actually thought Vaughn was more annoying than anything in Wedding Crashers.

OLD SCHOOL for crissakes, that movie is getting lost in the shuffle.

                    Wild guess:

You're a teenager and half of your "favorite movies list" were made before 1970 and at least a third are foreign?

Re: The new "Frat Pack" in Hollywood

I'm all for the "new" Frat Pack, as I hated pretty much everything the original Frat Pack did with the exception of 'There's Something About Mary' and Will Ferrel's SNL work. Some of the most painfully unfunny movies EVAR!

Now Carell, Rogen, and the 'Freaks and Geeks' and 'Undeclared' shows are quality comedy.

EDIT: Just read the above list, 'Life Aquatic' and 'Tennenbaums' were funny...but more for the ensemble aspect.

'Meet the Parent's was TERRIBLE! I was even getting a filling while watching it and Ben Stiller's acting was more painful than the novacaine!

The stupid *** polygraph was a jump the shark moment mid-movie. Awful!

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first time i saw Meet the Parents, i cause damn was it funny. Without a doubt the funniest movie i've ever seen next to Wedding Crashers again.

I mean seriously, the "i milked my cat" "You can milk anythihg with nipples" was priceless. The Volley Ball serve to the girl's face was funny as well. And who can forget the bomb song in the airplane. I found it definetly worth wild.

After that, not too many other movie that were super funny. I never really thought i could find a movie funny as Meet The Parents until i watched Wedding Crashers, but thats not something you can watch with your parents or your 13 year old brother
