Should I have I just looked at what I have played recently, but I will say that Toby Keith's Shock'n'Yall is one of my FOAT. I remember riding to the racetrack, because my grandpa is an vietnam vet and a racetrack offical now for sprint cars, and we would always listen to the american soldier song on that cd, wow good ole times.

"Tell All Your Friends" - Taking Back Sunday
                "Strata" - Strata
"Hybrid Theory" - Linkin Park (listened to this album almost nonstop for about 3 years, don't like the newer stuff)
"Aenima" - Tool (broadened my view on different types of rock)
                "My Own Prison" - Creed

Most of you probably won't agree in my taste of music, but these are my top 5. My number one must own is easily "Tell All Your Friends". I've had it since right about the time it was released, and still listen to it more than any other CD I own. I don't really listen to "Hybrid Theory" anymore as I outgrew LP, but at the time, I listened to HT all day, every day.

Nice call on the XTC. "O&L" is a great album. "English Settlement" & "Nonsuch" are pretty darn good too. "Nonsuch" was one of those albums that I really disliked the first time I heard it, but it got better & better with each listen. Andy Partridge is such a great songwriter and criminally under-appreciated by the masses. I personally think XTC is the closest thing there is to a modern-era Beatles in terms of their songwriting style (just significantly less popular & far less prolific). An average XTC album (like "Wasp Star") is still better than what most bands put out today. Great melodies & intelligent, witty lyrics.

Never heard of them before but I'm gonna give them a shot thanks to the Beatles comparison.

Here are some (mostly cheesy) XTC videos to get you familiar with their music:

Those will either get you more interested in the band or save you some money depending on your opinion. IMHO these guys deserved to sell a lot more CDs than they have during their long career.

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing - This, in my opinion is one of the greatest CDs of all time. It creates a distinct mood when you listen to it. It practically changes the temperature of the room.

Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek - Train of Thought - This CD got me through high school and really made an impact on my outlook on life. I learned so much just from listening to this CD.

MF Doom - Operation: Doomsday - I don't have a hard copy of this CD, but I can't count how many times I listened to this CD riding trains and buses in Chicago. It's funny, smart, and off-balance enough for me to enjoy it all the way through...not to mention all of the Fantastic Four samples.

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers - Another one of the greatest works of art. I get chills up my spine listening to this album, and I always notice something different about it when I listen to it.

Agree with all you said. I own all of XTC's stuff, and most of it is A+ material. English Settlement is great, as is Skylarking, Black Sea, Drums and Wires...I could go on for a while. And yes, Andy Partridge is one of the top songwriters of the modern era, IMO.

The most common word associated with XTC is "quirky." Terrific hooks and the smartest lyrics you have ever heard. They are a very British band, make no mistake.

IMO, Skylarking is XTC's Sgt. Pepper, while Oranges and Lemons is their White Album. But don't pass up the other albums I mentioned above.

Superfly - Curtis Mayfield - Whatever you want to say about the film you can but no question this album has as much heart as anything I have ever listened to. Plus Mayfield's arrangement and wah guitar can't be beat.

                                Quadrophenia - The Who -
Simple story album with The Who at its peak. Enthwistle's bass on "The Real Me" is awe inspiring. Townshend's arrangements top notch. I listen to this album every fall and it sets such a mood.

                                Lorca - Tim Buckley -
Loose album that some people find hard to get into but Buckley's voice is amazing and Lee Underwood on guitar and keyboards does some phenomenal work.

The Turning Point - John Mayall - Blues without a drummer. Live album that has a good vibe to it.

Bitches Brew - Miles Davis - Davis getting into rock music. Another album with a feel too it that can't really be described. The start of some serious fusion.

These are my must own. Not all very accessible to the average listener.
