Re: Saw 4
To be honest, I almost considered returning my Unrated DVD for the theatrical DVD for one reason and one reason only... the ending.
Recall how the theatrical version ends showing a dead John Kramer, and cuts to black. Now, compare that to the Unrated version that ends on a dead Lynn and fades to white. To me, it is a major difference, especially when you want to show people that it's like the end of a trilogy. It pisses me off that much that they decided to actually cut out footage.
Compare the theatrical ending to the unrated ending (just the last ten seconds or so, really). The theatrical gives me the shivers... the unrated just pisses me off.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

What sucks with all these DVD releases is that it would be nice if they would have released everything in 1 box set, theatrical and unrated/DC editions + all of the supplemental extras from both discs. I have the BluRay releases of the first 3 movies and what is so messed up is that SAW has no extras at all............SAW II only has a small handful of the extras............and same goes with SAW III. You would think since these movies are on a 50gb BluRay disc that they would get the extras on there, but Lionsgate was very skimpy on extras with their original BluRay releases.
If you don't own any of the unrated DVD's, the best one to get is the new Trilogy DVD set which has 6 discs in it + all of the extras from what I was reading. It's the one with Billy on the cover, but it sounds like SAW III: DC isn't good at all which is a shame.
Maybe oneday they will release definitive editions of this movie on DVD and BluRay.Comment

Re: Saw 4
The "John" trilogy is all over. I will fight this into the ground until people start understanding. I bet Leigh Whannell had "trilogy" in mind as well.
In the words of Randy Meeks from Scream 3 regarding trilogies:
“That's right. It's a rarity in the horror field, but it does exist, and it's a force to be reckoned with, because true trilogies are all about going back to the beginning and discovering something that wasn't true from the get go. 'Godfather', 'Jedi', all revealed something that we thought was true, that wasn't true.”
Let me add a few more series’ for you: Scream (obviously), The Matrix, and now… Saw. Apparently, something wasn’t 100% true from the beginning, and that was that John Kramer actually was aided since the beginning by Amanda Young.
“1) You got a killer who's gonna be super human. Stabbing him won't work, shooting him won't work, basically in the third one, you gotta cryogenically freeze his head, decapitate him, or blow him up.”
This isn’t necessarily true, but John is more than mortal. Sure, you can make this man’s heart stop, but even then, his games can and will continue. But in the end of Saw III, Jeff slices his throat. Fair enough.
“2) Anyone including the main character can die.”
Who is our main character? John? Amanda? Lynn? Jeff? Doesn’t matter… they’re all led to miserable deaths. Of course, this was the case through the whole series anyway.
"3) The past will come back to bite you in the ***! Whatever you think you know about the past, forget it. The past is not at rest, any sins you think were committed in the past are about to break out and destroy you.”
I think this is pretty much the lesson told in the entire series as well, and doesn’t need a dozen specific examples for you guys to understand.
Bottom line, this series follows the rules of a trilogy. It does it in more than this way, too. The first movie represents birth, the second represents life, and the third represents death. This is where it follows closely with The Matrix, and I dare anybody to prove me wrong that it doesn’t. Saw could have either lived as a standalone film, or been three movies. Two would have been awkward (it was “to be continued”), and any more than three means that it can go forever. But if you want to end at three, make it very climatic. I predicted John would die in Saw III, and that’s not a very tough prediction, either. It’s just part of the rules of a trilogy, that’s all.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Again, the 3rd movie was never the end, too many loose ends to be an "end". And your buddy Leigh Whannell produced it, so obviously he didn't feel it was the end.

Re: Saw 4
Ditto. The series is nothing special. It's quite generic and predictable. I was ok, II was pretty damn bad - and after that I didn't bother watching III, and I sure as hell won't waste my money on IV.Comment

Theatrical
Special Edition (cut to 4:45 mark)
Also in that second video, it shows the other added footage, like how they show John before S.W.A.T. enters the building! I mean, I like it more for its extended needle pit, furnace, venus fly trap scenes, as well as more dialogue with Eric from John, but some things just make me wonder why in the hell they make stupid additions/revisions.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Saw 4
Yeah, I agree with the above poster, you need a break from the Saw movies.
Again, the 3rd movie was never the end, too many loose ends to be an "end". And your buddy Leigh Whannell produced it, so obviously he didn't feel it was the end.
End of story, not a trilogy.
And may I remind you (or tell you for the first time) that those cliffhangers weren't included in the original script. In the original script, Amanda kills Eric, there is no wax on the tape, there is no envelope for Amanda, and Jeff is left to rot in the room with his daughter. Aside from Dr. Gordon, everything else is pretty much answered. Those stupid, unnecessary cliffhangers (where only 2.5 of the 4 were answered in Saw IV) allowed them to go on, that once again weren't in the original script.
Why would I need a break from the movies? I post regularly in an exclusive Saw forum... I'm not tired of talking about it at all.
Or wait. Re: Saw 4
There are three versions out now: the theatrical, the unrated, and the director's cut. The theatrical is the one that ends on John and cuts to black; the unrated is the one that ends on Lynn and fades to white; the director's cut has the completely different ending.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Star Wars has two separate trilogies.

No trilogy, I don't care what the original script said. If it said that was supposed to end, then it's the producer's job to make sure it ends, not the director. Argue all you want, but there's 4 Saw movies.. trilogy equals 3.
I mean you need a break because you get so upset and worked up over them. It's a movie, nothing else.Comment
