I don't want the gadgets to get crazy, I guess it was just always cool seeing Q and having a little fun to go along with the action. I do like the new direction, and they're really giving depth to Bond's character (why he does what he does).

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Finally saw this tonight - loved it. People say that it's "not Bond" because it doesn't have gadgets or some super-mad villain who wants to steal a nuclear weapon and hold the world hostage for one million fafillion dollars, but people are forgetting that Bond was stone cold dead and tired, so much so that it was successfully lampooned three times by the Austin Powers franchise.
Casino Royale was a restart for this franchise by turning it into something believable and real world - they took away James' gadgets and they turned the Spectre organization into something realistic with realistic aims like Dominic Greene's in this movie. I actually really, really enjoy that - much more than just another diabolical supervillain bent on global domination that Bond once again has to thwart with his super-gadgetry and wisecracking.
It's also cool how Bond needs to peel away layers of the Spectre organization. The villains in the first two movies, while the main characters of each film, were really just stooges in Spectre's big picture. It's much more interesting for Bond to unravel the organization from the bottom up than to see him taking on supervillain after supervillain in each film with no real purpose or connection between them.
Anyway, loved the film. It's not "classic" Bond, but I'm glad it's not. I've seen every Bond film multiple times and I love the series, but it was time for a reboot and I love what they've done with the franchise.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Just saw it for the first time on Blu-ray and I was blown away. I might wound up liking it just as much or more than CR. The action sequences, how they tied CR into this one, Craig's grittiness as Bond.
I honestly didn't find anything wrong with this movie and now I know why I take rottentomatoes with a grain of salt.Huge Fan of the New Orleans Saints & New Orleans Pelicans!!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Just the movie last night also on blu ray and let me say, the sound is amazing. I was just blown away how the good the sound was.
The movie itself was pretty good. I'm gonna watch it again this weekend just so that I can pick up on the little things I might have missed the first time.Comment

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Bump. I finally watched this last night on Blu-Ray and am pissed I didn't get to see it in theatres. I like how it picked up right where Casino Royale left off and continued to develop Bond and really evolve him as a character rather than just going "this is Bond and this is how he is and how he will always be." It was nice to see the action upped a level compared to CR. I did miss the Bond name drop line, but the opera scene where he gets all the players in the organization was pure 007 - such a great scene.

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
I saw this one at the theatre.....By far the worst bond film in terms of his true nature.....No gadgets, seldom used stealth, where was Q?If you like things getting blown up and don't care about the history or the authenticity of the Bond series then this is the one to see.If your a Bond fan from way back and have seen all of the other movies then you know what I am speaking of.Other than that it is a good-but not great rental, even on 1080p with Bose surround sound....The game was just as bad if not worse.Comment

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
For me, Bond is more than tacky gadgets or one-liners. Bond being a cold-blooded killer in this movie made sense since it is the first true sequel in the film's franchise and that part of his character was in align with Casino Royale. It would have been nice if Solace didn't take Bond too seriously and had allowed him to be a bit more playful and charismatic like he is known to be, but Solace's pacing never really allowed for any opportunities for Bond to down-shift from calculated assassin to suave killer. Despite this, I still felt like Daniel Craig was Bond, specifically in the scene at the opera and when he eludes the other agents at the hotel. I imagine the next film will be a bit more inline with Bond's "traditional" self since he will actually be able to report back to HQ and be briefed and have some time to compose himself. Had Solace been a stand-alone film, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much, but since it is basically Casino Royale Part 2 it works for me.

Agreed. That was my favorite scene in the movie. Especially the part where he is walking down the hall and runs right into Greene and his crew walking down the stairs.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Personally, I hope they never go back to the old way Bond was portrayed, not even the tiniest little bit. Since the Bourne movies came out, I've wanted all the spy/covert ops/assassins type characters to be grim, efficient, single minded, dealers of death.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
I thought Casino Royale did a good job of balancing the two sides of Bond and honestly I hope both sides of Bond are included in the next film. Solace did a great job of laying the groundwork of Bond being an efficient killer and it was great to witness, however, without a smirk or some kind of hint at his arrogance he didn't feel like Bond throughout the entire film. If he's a one-sided character, whats the point?
