Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
It's almost always never the director's decision on length of a film. The production company usually determines how long they want a movie. A lot of the time, they'll throw out a "random" number based on studies without even knowing if the story can really be told in that time frame.
Then the editor and director are expected to cut the movie to fit those demands. Sometimes, depending on the director's status, they can push for an extra minute or two, but it's a minute or two. If the production company says 110 minutes then it's gonna be 110 minutes give or take a minute or two. There's no way they'll give a director 120 minutes just to get that extra scene in there.
Besides, for the production company, they'll just convince themselves that they can package those extra 10 minutes into the DVD as a non-theatrical director's cut with unseen footage. Boom! Sales go through the roof."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. This would make perfect sense, but this didn't happen. The Unrated version had maybe three minutes more.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Well, I saw it tonight (don't ask how) and let me just say that I thought it was kinda...blah. Really boring, a lot more corny than Casino Royale - think a Brosnan-era Bond, the action was terrible and the acting was so much worse than CR.
And I'm just kidding. Movie was ****ing awesome. The sound cut out at two or three scenes so I missed three different dialogue scenes (two of which seemed really important, the third of which was between Bond/Girl so probably missed a few good lines), but other than that it was everything I wanted from this movie.
The opening two scenes are amazing and set the pace for the entire movie. It is a lot more fast-paced, more adreniline driven than Casino Royale but it absolutely works. The movie really only slows down four or five times, and the rest of the time the movie is action-packed. Craig is once again amazing as Bond and anyone worried about the fact that the more action-filled film would ruin Bond's character or would take away his "witty side" and...it doesn't. It is still Bond, even though some of the action scenes are more along the lines of something in a Bourne movie, however the scenes in QoS have a lot more flair while keeping that same gritty feeling.
But yeah...I want to see it again to see what I missed those times the sound cut out, but even without those scenes I'd still give this movie a 9/10. Could've been longer, but it didn't feel short, if that makes any sense.Comment

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Not if you do what they did. I want to know how the video quality was guys? I was tempted to "watch" this earlier but I wasnt completely sold on the quality of it even though the sample looked pretty good. On a side note, either of you guys had a chance to watch Saw V outside of the theater? Ive seen samples of this as well and other then being dark it didnt look bad either.Comment

Re: James Bond: Quantum of Solace
I already got my tickets for friday, so I went ahead and saw it early too.
Craig was fine, but Quantum of Solace just isn't as good as Casino Royale. I even watched CR again last night. The length wasn't an issue for me, since I didn't really feel that affected what's presented in the movie. It was paced faster, but there's actually probably a few scenes that could have been left out too.
I've been reading about a bunch of nitpicking, but my only one is wondering why they put the gunbarrel intro, which is a Bond trademark, at the end of the movie for the credits. It's fine how they did it in CR, but it's just tacked on the end in this movie for no reason or purpose.Comment
