    J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"

More importantly, there was a teaser trailer of a movie. It was some college aged students in a large city (New York, I think), and it was filmed with a home video camera. Then you hear the ground shake and a roar. They think its an earthquack, but theres another roar, then buildings start getting destroyed and you see the statue of libery's head roll down the street and it says 1.18.08 and J.J. Abrams. I have no idea what this movie is and can't find anything on it on the web. Anyone have any ideas? I'll try to see if i can find the trailer online somewhere.

    I also heard:

And what makes this different than any other giant monster movie? Well, as I understand it, most of the film is going to be shot using home video cameras, as if from the point of view of real people who are experiencing an attack on New York. It’s designed as a fairly small picture, all things considered, and right now, they’re working to make sure the script is going to deliver some wild thrills (like an earthquake that levels Manhattan or an oil tanker flipping over by the Statue of Liberty), but that it’s not suddenly going to turn into a giant $150 million movie.
The sound sounded like Godizilla. The trailer was stupid until they got outside and all the rocks started flying around. First i thought it was some type of "blair witch" movie, at least with that style of camera. However when they went outside and the rocks were fly, the special effects were top notch.

I'm gona keep an eye on this one

I thought it sounded a lot like Godzilla as well.

Wouldn't, actually, mind a new take on Godzilla.

I work at a theatre and my manager said it's called "Cloverfield"... it seems like they're keeping it super hush-hush to generate interest.

For some reason the trailor reminds me of the Blair Witch Project. I remember thinking "what the hell is this about." Hopefully this turns out better cause Blair Witch was a waste of money in my opinion.

Well the trailer is on youtube now. I won't link to it because it's copyrighted material and well it's grainy as all heck (being that it was recorded off a camcorder)

It looks fairly interesting but....I'll hold off any judgment til later. I don't think it's a new take on Godzilla from what I hear it has to do with some kind of parasitic alien invasion. It seems like a good premise.

I wouldn't mind another take on Godzilla as well. The movie did seem interesting. I'll keep an eye on it.

Whats even more amazing is that it has a release date of Jan 18 2008. Which isn't all that far away.

Hummm parasitic alien isn't as interesting as gaint monster. I mean that movie with Nicole Kidman is coming out this year and thats like parasitic aliens. I rather a gaint monster movie. Hopefully the camcorder camera sytle thier going to use doesn't over do the movie

the kidman movie is a remake of the the Invasion of the Body Snatchers which is an excellent movie from the 1950's I believe... Everyone that likes horror should watch that one... it's a classic.

                Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer

I just did a bunch of looking around online after viewing the trailer, and there are a few rumors, but nothing solid.

The most interesting rumor I read was that for a while now, Abrams has been attached to Voltron. A couple people state when they saw the preview at the theater before Transformers, they could swear they heard after one of the roars someone saying in the movie "it's a lion! It's huge!".

Probably just blind speculation, but would be sweet. Just doesn't seem to make sense. If you were gonna make a Voltron movie, it's gotta be a big action movie along the lines of Transformers, not shot from home video cameras.

It's probably just an original monster movie with a different camera style. Whatever it is, I wanna know!

Yea, my brother watched Transformers and I asked him about the trailer. His response was, "I saw that...what the hell was it?"

Guess Paramount and J.J. are doing the right thing to build interest.

It's just weird/cool seeing special effects like that when looking at them through a handheld camera.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
