Are you a fan of the series: Firefly?

I think it was a head of it's time and too political for Fox and that's why they axed it. Fox didn't even show the episodes in chronological order...

I've heard a lot of good things about this movie but am unclear as to whether working knowledge of the show is needed to enjoy it.

      Thoughts?

i would definitely say to watch the season 1 dvd's if you can before you see the movie. i think it makes the movie that much better. Hard for me to say that the movie would be able to stand on it own since i saw the episodes beforehand. Though i have a few friends who loved the movie, then went and watched the dvd's after the fact.

you don't really need to have seen the series to like the movie. I saw the movie first, and liked it enough to want to go watch the series on DVD as well.

I was surprised to find it was yet another great show that got cancelled by the geniuses at FOX. It's almost hard to count how many shows they have done this too.

I'd say that the movie would make you want to see Firefly, and I'm not sure I'd want to watch Firefly after I'd seen the movie, a lot better ahead of time.

I recommend both though, I just watched the Firefly series and Serenity in May/June and got completely addicted. I wish they'd let Joss keep making it.

I'll stick with the version I have. I loved the series but the movie was a poor extension.

Johnny, the movie was good.....but the TV show was even better. I think that you can get the tv show for only $20 now, it would be worth picking up.

I've never seen the TV show but loved the movie. So I wouldn't say it's a prerequisite.

I'm gonna pick up Firefly so I have it myself (borrowed when i watched before)...

Now here's the big question, for Serenity there's a HD-DVD version, but it won't have all the Collector's Edition stuff...Choices Choices

What is that link? Joss has stated that he will continue the series in whatever format allows him. I think there were even talks of them doing a TV movie for the Sci-Fi channel, but I don't know how long ago that was.

Yes. I just finished watching the series on DVD this past week and I thought it was a great show.

                        Nice avatar, BTW.

they've been talking about it on and off, though lately its been falling more and more off the radar. I only wish sci-fi would pick it up. Imagine having the Battlestar Galactica finale and the following week..."FIREFLY RETURNS!!!!"

I think the only thing stopping that is Fox still has rights to the Firefly television series, which is why they would only be able to do a television movie. What is that link though? How recent is that? Would they send you the episodes on DVD or what?

nah, i think the site is just someone pipedream. I doubt its anything more than that.

I agree with fox and them holding the rights, which they refuse to give; and yet they wont bring the show back. So we are stuck with their current crapfest.
