I unfold the scroll, plant seeds to stampede the globe
When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast
to conquer peace leaving savages to roam in the streets
Live on the run, police paying me to give in my gun
Trick my Wisdom, with the system that imprisoned my son
Smoke a gold leaf I hold heat, nonchalantly
I'm grungy, but things I do is real it never haunts me
while, funny style niggaz roll in the pile
Rooster heads profile on a bus to Riker's Isle
Holdin weed inside they ***** with they minds on the
pretty things in life, props is a true thug's wife
It's like a cycle, niggaz come home, some'll go in
Do a bullet, come back, do the same **** again
From the womb to the tomb, presume the unpredictable
Guns salute life, rapidly, that's the ritual
- Verbal Intercourse
I'm havin daymares in daytime wide awake try to relate
This can't be happenin' like I'm in a dream while I'm walkin'
Cause what I'm seein' is hauntin', human beings like ghost and zombies
President Mugabi holdin guns to innocent bodies
In Zimbabwe, they make John Pope seem Godly, sacrilegious and blasphemous
In my lifetime I look back in paths I walked, where savages fought and passengers taught
Prostitutes stomp in high heel boots
And badges screamin at young black children stop or I will shoot
I look back at cooked crack plus cars that pass by
Jaguars mad fly, and I'm guilty for materialism
Blacks is still up in the prison trust that
So save me your sorry I'm raisin a Army
Revolutionary warfare with Damian Marley
We sparkin a iron marchin to Zion
You know how Nas be NYC state of mind I'm in
- Road To Zion
As far as the topic goes, I like 50 in doses and Kanye is one of my favorites. Kanye's production alone will make his albums must haves for me. He's on my Mt. Rushmore of great producers alongside Primo, Rza, and Timbo.
I don't understand the hate for either of these guys, but that's just me. If you make good music, I'm going to bump it, if you don't I won't, but it seems like people get too hung up on labels like "underground", "mainstream", "sell-out". By the way, Chuck D said it best... "You're supposed to sell out! If got fifteen tapes on the shelf, your mission is to sell. You ain't giving it away".
I guess I like some variety in my rap. I like Nelly, Kanye, 50, Mobb Deep, Eminem, Nas, Jay, Budden, Biggie, Lupe, Royce Da 5'9", Ghostface (all of the Wu actually), The Game, AZ, etc. (I could go all day). I don't want to be hit with a message in every song I listen to. I don't want party lyrics in every song either. Some songs get me pumped, some I like to zone out to, some is club music, summer music, driving music, music I like to dissect, music I don't want to think about, etc. (again, I could go on all day). The point is, I love the variety that rap has to offer. I'm a complex person with many different sides, many different moods or whatever, and the music I listen to reflects it. I have a huge East Coast/ Midwest bias in the music I listen to because I love the sound that they produce, but aside from that I try to stay open minded.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I love reading posts about why people like certain music. But once it gets into my music is better than yours and you're uneducated and listen to garbage, thats about when I'm done.
