old man to break sound barrier in freefall

this is the most ridiculous stunt I've ever heard of.

A dare-devil Frenchman is preparing to leap head first out of a balloon from the edge of space and hurtle towards earth at more than 1,000mph in a dizzying bid to rewrite skydiving history

I predict he will break a body part before the sound barrier

Hasn't this guy heard of terminal velocity? Is it possible for him to go faster than the speed of sound?

I dunno, the plan seems like it will work. The thing is, that parachute is going to have to be the most durable thing on the face of the Earth.

See, I honestly think the parachute is the most dangerous part of this stunt. If you make a parachute that can slow you down so instantly, couldn't that like... tear you in half and kill you? He'll be going from 1,000 MPH to... a lot slower the instant he opens his parachute. That kind of instantaneous rate of change seems like enough to absolutely rip you apart.

Or at least give you a headache...

Good point... that sudden deceleration will be the most intense part.

I was thinking the same thing, it would be as if he was hitting sudden impact once that parachute opens up............I think the force will pull back and snap him in half. That's 1,000 miles of force.

I watched a Mythbusters today about the penny being dropped on your head. They talked about human terminal velocity and our maximum is only 120 MPH. So i think this guy is just wasting his time

The most dangerous part? I think the whole thing is the most dangerous part.
This has about a 2% chance of ending well IMO.
