HD channels don't look good at all, and nearly every channel is fairly grainy.

1080i, and it downscales to 720p for madden.

I think it actually might be the tv itself, the picture in general is grainy!

does it make a difference if i don't have an hdtv tuner? What difference does that make? Does that effect how i view hd programs and games?

And also for example if sportscenter (HD) is on, with an hdtv, even wihtout having HD cable should i get hd quality picture while watching it (its like a free hd program?) Would getting a hdtv tuner sharper the picture and make it crisp and clear? Because all cable programs/stations regardless if its a show in hd or not looks really grainy and poor.

you need a hd tuner through your cable company to get sports center in hd..............you can pick up a regular antenna and get your locals for free though. But you need to call your cable company and get their hd box. Probably have to pay for their hd channels too.

you are paying for what ever channels your cable company offer in HD. Not just sports center.
