Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**

They took it back but it wasn't a solid, "We never said that."

It was more of a, "It might not be explainable in today's understanding, but there are theories supporting our story." (paraphrased obviously).

The time travel theory isn't taking away from the reality of the show. The entire show has been science-fiction the moment 48 people survived the crash.

They've only maintained that everything is explainable through science.

    (or what Chief said )
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I agree man, FINALLY we are getting some real answers. Time travel via consciousness, wow!

This is becoming like Donnie Darko the TV series, LOL!

I like this idea of "time travel" but its not really time travel its more having a timeline of your life. You are able to insert your consciousness or spirit back into yourself in a previous time with current knowledge. The whole, "If I knew then, what I know now" but the catch is, any decisions you make must still result in you getting back to the very exact spot and time that you were at before you lost consciousess and went back in time or you die. Its like every nano second has its own paralell universe and you can jump in at any point, but you have to keep the paralells in alignment, thats why you must return to the exact spot you jumped from and you must have a constant point of reference.

I think Faraday's constant is Desmond because he was the one who bore witness to his time travel experiment and he could instruct Desmond where to be in order to ensure he stayed as his constant.

I guarantee Ben has the ability to understand the time travel, possible know how to initiate it. Thats why Miles said 3.2 Million in a week, so Ben would know where he had to return to or go to and how much time he had to achieve it.

do you think the writers used the JAck Sheppard info to relate to the time theory, or to also relate that JAck Sheppard was a bad guy in Frequency?

Time & Space Theory. I think Jack is just basically a clown neither good or evil just always trying to force his own agenda on others. I honestly think that the Losties are going to fade into a back story. They aren't real relevant to the overall story of the island. I couldn't care less if any of the Losties make it or not as long as they explain the inner workings of the island. Desmond's character is much more intriguing. I hope they start showing us more of Penny's father as well.

I also would like to know more about the Black Rock. The Dharma initiative started on the island in the 1970's or 1980's. Last nights episode made it seem like Penny's dad bought that journal in 1996. Was it to protect the secrets of the island that he bought the journal or do we discover that he discovered the secrets after he bought it. But that wouldn't make much sense because didn't Hanso fund the Dharma project, so he's known about the island for years if Hanso was the funding for Dharma.

Sorta, except as Daniel said, "You can't change the future."

The Losties are integral to the story as a frame of reference viewpoint for the viewing audience so they will not be downplayed or fade to the back of the story in the grand scheme of things (i'm sure some episodes they will though, much like last nights ep).

I definitely agree with this. Right now Desmond, Ben, Locke, Walt and Penny's father are the only characters I'm really concerned with. Kate, Sawyer, Jack, etc are all pretty much trying to get off the Island or stay on it but they really don't have a connection to the Island.

Okay, now I'm really confused. I was on board with the whole 'island time' vs 'real time'. But now it doesn't make sense.
Oceanic 815 crashed on September 22nd 2004. And Desmond called Penny last night on December 24, 2004. That means that 90 days HAS passed in the real world, just like the island.
                      Now I'm even more confused.

I think in regards to one aspect yes. I also think that the island was there for research and Desmond screwed everything up by making the Losties crash there. But I don't think they can figure out how to get the Losties not to crash there and survive. I think the crash they saw on the floor of the ocean was another attempt to let them bypass the island. Just a crazy theory.

I wonder if Jack gets all wigged out because he's supposed to get back to the island because he jumped times, but now can't figure out how to get where he's supposed to be. So stuff is going to hit the fan when he doesn't get there. He's going to die and alot of other stuff will happen too. And it would be his fault, perhaps, knowing Jack, he tried to pull a ground hog day and decided to jump times so he could go back and do everything perfect, but he can't and know he's a dead man walking and other people are in dire straights because of his actions. That would make sense from a character standpoint.

This is a good point you bring up.

But why did Sayid seem suprised that it was so close to Christmas, they knew how long they were on the island. It also seems that on the island if they knew they were there 91 days, they would have made some reference to Christmas. I would imagine that it would bring back all types of wemotion if you were stuck on that island on Christmas.

I don't think so. It's confusing and I don't think we'll get it yet because every time Daniel tries to explain Jack cuts tells him to hurry up. Only Juliet was smart enough to say, "Talk slow and maybe we'll understand." But of course, it's all a device to make us wait.

Time is different. It's been hammered into our heads the past few weeks so they won't change course.

The only explanation I have is that Desmond spoke to Penny in 2004 but he wasn't speaking to Penny of the present time in the outside world. I know, it's too crazy to understand.

I still think it's Penny's boat and Penny of 2004 doesn't know she sends a boat (this is the same Penny that Charlie spoke to).

Interesting theory. But the helicopter pilot was positive the pilot of the found crashed plane wasn't who they thought he was due to him not having a wedding band on. It looks more like a cover-up. But who knows? Everything is up in the air.

And I'm still very much interested in 'the button'. Remember Mrs.Hawking from the Desmond episode? This is when Desmond initially jumped back in time and instead of running from Penny he decided to propose. But Mrs.Hawking, who owned the jewelery store where Des was going to get a ring, knew that Desmond was 'from the future' and warned him that if he proposed he would never get to the island and if he didn't press the button everyone on the planet would die.
I hope this is something the writers come back to and don't fluff off.

This is why Juliet has to go. I thought she was being sarcastic because she had that stupid smirk on her face. If she is telling him to really slow down, that would make sense.
