Streets, Lupe has a album/mixtape out called It Was Written (lots of interludes and remixes)

I have mixed feelings about Lupe. Lyrically, I'm usually feeling the songs, while his beats are usually hit and miss. As mentioned before most of his choruses are terrible and really take away from the song.

Wow, I had no idea. I guess that makes more sense.

        Bar of the album:

        Gold Watch-
"I like Street Fighter 2/ I really hate Zangief/ only Ken and Ryu/ I find it hard to beat Blanka"

It's so funny because it's so true. Blanka's was so hard to beat and Zangief and Dahlman(or whatever that indian dudes name was) just sucked. Vega was hard as hell to beat too.

Anyways, after bumping this album and then going back to listen to Food And Liquour, The Cool is leagues better than Food And Liquor. It's kinda like when Cube came out with Amerrikkka's Most Wanted and Death Certificate. AMW had the most impact, but Death Certificate was just so much nicer. Lyrically and conceptually, Lupe is on another level with this one and the production is less montononous.

Only area where it could improve and would help him ALOT in selling records would probaly be to go out and get better names for his hook. Sick of him or not, T-Pain would've been perfect for the Hi-Def. track. Mary J., John Legend, etc. It adds familiarity and recognition to the album.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

Yeah dude I agree 100%. If he had some better hooks this album would be perfect

I listened to it on imeem some. Its decent. I don't like a couple songs, love some (go go gadget flow, hi-definition, hip-hop saved my life, paris tokyo, etc), and the rest are just OK.

7/10. I'll prob. end up coping it tho.

I think Lupe is the second best rapper out right now behind Jay Z

                    Re: Lupe Fiasco's The Cool

It's a VERY good album. Honestly, every track is good and it is listenable all the way through. I like it more that Food and Liquor. I loved FnL the first few listens, but it quickly grew old with me. I have a feeling thats not gonna happen with The Cool.

His wordplay is good as always, but damn it seems like his flow got ALOT nicer. Maybe I just wasn't paying much attention to him first go around. Either way, I feel comfortable calling this a great album. Its better than good.

                    Top 5 Songs:
                    Hip Hop Saved My Life
                    Gold Watch
                    The Die
                    Dumb it Down
                    The Coolest

                    Honorable Mention:
                    Hi-Definition
                    Go Go Gadget Flow

I tend to agree that he needs better hook though. Honestly, the hooks he does aren't so bad, but I'm not really feeling the guest hooks much. Except for High Definition. I love that song.

Usually when I immediately love an album it gets old fast. When an album has to grow on me (like The Cool) it usually means that it is destined to be in my rotation for a LONG time. I thought Graduation sucked compared to Kanye's previous albums and now it's my favorite of the three. I think this will be the same.

The more I listen to this album, the more hooked I get. The story of "The Cool" told throughout the album is damn creative; it's been awhile since I've heard a great concept album. The first couple of spins were usually playing 2K or in pieces on the train. Listening to the album front to back and paying attention to the story and wordplay ups the album a lot.

My current fad song (meaning I'm feeling at the moment but know it'll get old) is Paris, Tokyo. Very smooth song like Excuse Me Miss.

I love the coolest for the story (hate the hook), love Hi-Def (Snoop, one of the most overrated rappers ever came correct), I love Hip Hop Saved Me and Intruder back to back (deep ish!), Streets on Fire is Great, I hate the beat and hook on Gold Watch. The food analogy on Gotta Eat has grown old already and I usually skip the track, I love Little Weapon (snare drum is great), and Dumb it Down is still my favorite track. The last track really sucks. I've only listened to it once, but the hook is the worst on the album.
