Touchscreen would be nice but when I bought my iPod it wasn't something I really felt I needed to dig very deeply into. I went to CNet to see what kind of reviews the current G5 got. I wasn't really concerned about the next generation. Who knows, I've got some friends who want iPods. Maybe I'll sell mine and get a G6.

The touch screen really isn't needed if you use your iPod for music. If you don't care about coverflow then I think its a non-feature. Now if you want a good video iPod it sound like 6G is the one to get.

So the 6g ipod will have wi-fi. It sounds like they are just putting out an iphone with the phone. It looks like it will have safari that you could use at wi-fi places. It also sounds like you tube will be another feature.

Hell, I can't even figure out how to put video on this G5. I tried it once and gave up. The file type that I downloaded from LimeWire was compatible but it won't sync to the iPod.

I don't even understand why there's even any hype for this. "Instead of being able to listen to music and watch video on a tiny device you'll now be able to....listen to music and watch video on a tiny REDESIGNED device". Big whoop. I don't get it. Just like the Iphone, I don't get it. For $600, I could buy:

          a) a cell phone
          b) an ipod
          c) and a laptop

All three that do their jobs much better than the iphone. So why in the heck would I buy an iphone? It seems that people lose all sense of logic and reason with some of the apple products.

Because of the reasons you just stated. You can pretty much do most of that stuff on the go. Are you going to take your laptop with you to a sporting event? How about the Dr's office? You sound like someone who has never used a mobile device. Forget all the Apple hype: the iPhone is a PDA-like phone that has a pretty interface and plays music/videos bought from the iTunes store. Nothing more. People have been doing pretty much everything the iPhone has with a PDA and software for years now.

Actually, they've been doing more. But the iPhone is a pretty damn cool little gadget.

I don't expect to see all the little OS X widgets on the new iPod. Expect this to be an update to the iTunes store and its capabilities, introduction of a new iPod, and probably some more discussion of Leopard.

              b) an ipod
              c) and a laptop

All three that do their jobs much better than the iphone. So why in the heck would I buy an iphone? It seems that people lose all sense of logic and reason with some of the apple products.

              lmao, good try

And I'd like to see what kind of...
              a) cell phone
              b) ipod
              c) laptop

you could get all for under $600. I look forward to your response.

Because people don't want to carry all those things around at once....people even don't want to have to deal with a mp3 player separate from their phone, too many gadgets and too few pockets.

I'll just pretend my 30gb Video IPOD went out and trade it in for a newer model with my product replacement plan.

I see the typical negativity we see from Taylor with anything Husker related has carried over to Iphones...

I'm pretty sure Taylor34 heard that Bill Callahan and Cosgrove both have Iphones. So that is why he is against Iphones.

Seriously. I'm not an Apple fan, but how are you going to pull those three off for $600?

You're right, it's not $600. Let me add it up:

Cell phone = free when I signed a year contract
ipod nano = $80 from apple refurbished center (it may have been $100, but I think it was $80)
Toshiba laptop duel core = $450 from Best Buy

So you guys are right, it wasn't $600, it was $530 that I spent. And my cell phone plan is a heck of a lot cheaper I'm guessing than apples, lol.

I'm not hating, I'm just being logical. You can laugh at me Herbsinator, but I was correct last year about the huskers. You think because I think the huskers are a 8-4 team, I'm being negative. It's not negative, it's being REALISTIC.

I think that the iPhone is cool and is a great gadget, but is way overpriced. If it was $300 instead of $600, I'd probably be singing a different tune.

I agree that it's overpriced, but you're missing the entire point. Don't forget your wireless broadband so the laptop you're carrying everywhere (in a fashionable backpack, I'm sure the ladies will love that on a date) will have internet access. Sure will be simple to find that restaurant you've gotten lost trying to find, just let me wait for my laptop to boot up.

It's just nicer to have them all in one smaller, convenient package. Is it way too expensive? Hell yeah, IMO. I'll never pay that much, personally. I just think your "it's easily replaced with these" idea doesn't quite pan out, because what you suggest does not replace the iPhone in an elegant manner.

I agree, there are some situations like that where it'll be very useful. On the flip side though, if you're at a coffee shop or something like that the laptop will just kill the iphone. You mention the navigation thing, the best thing in navigation is a Garmin nuvi. Those things are awesome. Speaks all the directions, gives you turn by turn routes, can list all eating places, golf courses, etc in the U.S.--now those are one of those "must have" devices.

It's a matter of taste as with anything. What phone do you have?

And how many gigs does your Nano have? Honestly actually I really don't care too much, now that you've added all that up I understand.

                                its all about the SOFTWARE.

Apple has spent BOATLOADS of money designing the software in the iphone. Thats where the price is at. No other phone on the market is anywhere near the iPhone user interface and operating system.
