No one wants to talk about the cops that pulled over a speeding driver that could have caused an accident. We'll get the stories about a cop that saved someone's life but that's about it.

It's not news if an officer does what he/she is supposed to do. And that's a good thing. It's only news if they do wrong and when you think about it, there aren't that many stories of cops doing wrong. It's just that when they do happen they get blown out by the media.
There are many stories that don't go reported or are ignored.

I didn't read the article but I assumed the cops pulled a sting operation. This is what I don't get and maybe massnole can explain it but isn't it entrapment if you have a cop posing as a hooker and trying to get guys to incriminate themselves?

In this case since the guy said "no" the cops have NO leg to stand on and again i'd seriously look at bringing the entrapment issue up.

I have a simple solution for this problem.

He gets to commit one crime and not be charged.

It could be anything, from Jay walking to killing a bald eagle.

"A Chicago police report offers few details, saying only that it was Erasmo Palacios who asked for sex, never mentioning his wife in the car or his daughter nearby."

This is my number one reason why I don't trust cops. Three situations I've known about from people close to me where a police report was involved. Each time, the report was very vague and gave the exact opposite report of what happened.

My mom's apartment was burglarized when I was living with her as a teen. I know who did it, it was my next-door neighbor (a classmate of mine) when I invited him over during a lunch break from school one day. A lockbox was stolen that contained many items, including birth certificates and passports and lots of foreign currency. $40 in cash was also stolen out of my 5-year old brother's piggybank. He told me he had to go to the bathroom, but that isn't what he was doing. The cops came by after my mother reported it, and after a half-hour of listening to my mom, they dismissed the case because my mom wouldn't press charges against ME, since they were sure that I did it!

Re: Man arrested after telling hooker, no.

I can't believe they did this. I would have the badges of these cops, they should not work as police again.

As for entrapment, usually as long as the police don't convence or persaude you to commit the crime, they are fine. Basically if you where planning to commit the crime or they ask and you said yes, you have no defense. If you say no and they keep asking, then you have a case.

For the most part I don't have problems with cops, but I have had 2 situations where the cops went overboard or were illegally enforcing the law. 1, in my teens, where a cop pulled my friend over and I was in the back of a swift and looked out the back of the window. she pulled us over because she thought I was being kidnapped and she almost pulled her gun.

The other I got pulled over for speeding, which I was, but the cop lied and added 12 MPH to get it over the limit to where I had to go to court and where the judge would not reduce it or throw it out. He also was illegally parked in a turn lane with no lights on and didn't pull the car in front of me over. You cannot pick and choose when to enforce the law.

Re: Man arrested after telling hooker, no.

They tried to get me on something like this when I was still in Brooklyn... I was on my way to pick up my wife from the hospital about 9:00 one night. I was driving through this area where there were a lot of factories and warehouses, so there was nobody there. This night, there was these two chicks, "prostitutes", who started calling me to stop and asking if I wanted to have a good time, trying every trick in the book, trying to get me to pull over. Now, I knew that prostitutes were in the area, but you'd see them at 3:00 in the morning, not 9:00 at night. And they were far more discreet, you'd never see them calling people over to them. I knew right away they were trying to trap a brotha.

My problem with the police is that they get to do alot of **** and get away with it. The police have killed people for holding wallets, beaten people because of how they look, have been video taped beating people yet they consistently get away with it. If you're feelings are hurt then too bad I'm not going to talk about how great the police are when everything I've seen and heard suggests otherwise. The reason that people have agreed with me is that they know the truth about what goes on with the police, I'm not making anyone agree with anything I've said.

Just one of the many beatings that happen at the hands of the police. Of course the police were acquitted and the judge said that the guy should've put his hands behind his back, despite being tackled and punched.

get off your high horse. you know damn well it's your opinion or the highway, and it's been that way for years.

Who cares which one of you is right, you just don't have respect for anyone or their opinion (as you said in the post above) and that's what pisses people off.

Judge the person not the profession. But then again, that'd require you to not make generalizations about people.

Not all departments or cops are this bad. It's the minority that gets into the news. The problem is that when departments are wrong and they know they are wrong they are incapable of admitting they are wrong. Instead they dig in and fight common sense.

All the Chicago PD had to do was admit they were wrong, give the guy's car back and have a TV crew showing the police chief giving the guy a $50 gift card to chile's or something. Instead like everything else, they know they are wrong but if they admit they will be embarrased.

                            Common sense is needed here.

jmood I think the main thing is you lumped all cops into one. My dad was a State Trooper for 20 years and a Sheriff for 8 years. I'm very proud of him and the work he did including helping solve several murders during his time. So as you can see lumping them all together because of some bad ones isn't right.
