The new episode is great except for one storyline. I'll wait till everyone sees it before I discuss it.

Already one of my favorite shows, plus they added Aaron Pierce. I just wet myself thinking about it.

I stopped watching Friday Night Lights when the eps became more about family and personal problems than Football. I mean the crying out loud, from mid to the end of the season no was no football present at all. Its so melodramatic now. Hopefully they get back to the roots.

Playmakers was able to do a great job. Had great football games and great off the field stuff. Yet F.N.L is now about who mom slept with who and who bangin the coach's daughter

Funny you mention this...I think more minimal focus on football is what grabs the women and other demographics...I need to see season 1 on DVD, but I've heard this show was cool, and not just from sports/football fans.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Lyla is freaking 27 years old, she really does look like a high chick or a 21 year old, damn these actors these days

Nice, I'll watch it later today.

                    Season 1 was amazing.

I've put my analysis with spoilers in a quote box and in gray coloring so you have to highlight the text with your mouse to see it:

For those using a different background color I have moved it way down the page so you can skip this post.

                      ***SPOILER ALERT***

The episode overall was fantastic. I would give it a 9/10, but unfortunately I cannot say with full certainty that Friday Night Lights hasn't missed a beat. The reason? The Landry and Tyra murder/manslaughter plot line that could potentially ruin the show if it becomes one of the main storylines. It felt like a cheap ploy to try and amp the ratings, and for a show that goes for realism this story had me rolling my eyes. First of all, the rapist stalking Tyra was fine. That is actually a common occurrence when it comes to rape/sexual assault where the victim will have been either stalked beforehand or stalked afterwards. But confronting Tyra when she is out in public with Landry right there? STUPID. Not to mention the fact that Landry hitting the rapist on the head with the bottle would never have killed him. We're supposed to believe that he's dead from that? STUPID. Not to mention the fact that they apparently aren't going to the police. So what, they're going to try and cover up the fact that they killed someone? STUPID. Can I say STUPID enough? Man, I hated that plotline.

Aside from that, everything else was fantastic. The Landry/Saracen banter was witty and hilarious as usual. I laughed out loud several times, especially during the bit about "WWRD" (what would Riggins do?) and the scene where Landry called Saracen from Tyra's bathroom.

The Lyra scenes were great, too, as I think becoming more spiritual and religious would be a natural result of the tumultuous year she had with her parents divorce, the end of the Jason Street relationship, and the whole "Lyla is a slut" smear campaign after she cheated on Jason. I particularly loved her conversation with Riggins where he told her that despite the three-way he just had, she is still his "number one." It's also clear that Buddy failed to win his wife back, and it appears both he and Lyla dislike the new guy equally (although Lyla chose the more civil tactic of taking shots at her potential new stepfather during grace as opposed to trying to start a fistfight).

Julie is now playing the rebellious teen card, although it looks like her father got through to her a bit at the end (with the washing dishes scene). Tami, from my best guess, is going through post-partum depression, or at least that's my best guess from the crying scene.

As for the new coach, I think he will be replaced by Taylor shortly, and here's why:

The writers have set this up perfectly. The new coach is working the players, such as Riggins, too hard, and they aren't going to like him. Not only that, but he is going to wear his welcome with the Boosters, most notably Buddy Garrity who he kicked out of practice. It seems Jason street and Mac McGill don't like him either, so there is going to be a lot of pressure on this new coach to win, and he won't do it. The Panthers will be losing football games, and the fans will be agitated. Meanwhile, at TMU, coach Taylor will have trouble adjusting to the fact that as a QB coach, he is low on the totem pole. I think he will hate his job. Tami will have trouble with the baby as Julie, who will continue acting out, won't provide much help. Living away from the coach was fine without a newborn to take care of (on top of working as the guidance counselor), and the post-partum depression won't help either. I think the coach, with his family in turmoil, will consider moving back to Dillon. When the new Coach of the Panthers gets fired after an 0-2 or 0-3 start, the choice will be easy. He'll be back in the Panthers coaching office before you know it.

I'm going to wait and watch it in beautiful HD, at least I hope so. That link is very tempting. This is absolutely an amazing show. I read the book first before knowing about the movie. Then saw the movie. And now the show. Seriously, there is no better show on television right now.
