Yeah, the single is great, it's on XM all the time.

I was looking at the Best Buy ad and ran across the cd coming out this week. I'll have to find the single and listen to it.

Album of the year. Absolutely amazing CD. I've listened to it about 15 times since release, can't get enough of it. Easily their best work to date. Has the hard pounding stuff, but the mellow stuff is just incredible. GET IT!

Is there a more tired, cliched pop-rock band today than the Foo Fighters? I grabbed the band's new record last weekend, and it's rinse-wash-repeat Foo Fighters as you've known them since the debut record in 1995.

Formula: Hook-laden verses followed by repetitive chorus that Grohl sings after the first verse and screams after subsequent verses. Add a break somewhere in the song that slows the tempo with Grohl singing quietly, followed by a Grohl scream or solo to increase the tempo. Toss in a sweet little ballad or acoustic number -- which is becoming another Foos' cliche -- for "variety."

          Rinse, wash, repeat.

I can't believe I'm writing this, as I LOVED the Foos through "There Is Nothing Left to Lose." But I can't think of a more respected rock-pop band in the last 10 years that has done nothing to advance its sound or test itself than this band.

The Foo Fighters are a harder-rocking version of the Goo Goo Dolls. Paint-by-numbers power pop with zero innovation.

          Take care,
          PK

I don't know if we heard the same CD. There's 3 songs with piano on this disc, sounds completely different than past Foo's stuff. Granted, The Pretender sounds like most of the Foo's past stuff ( and it's such a kick *** song), but the rest of the disc is just completely different. Let It Die is one of the more amazing songs they've ever recorded, and Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners (the song he wrote for the miners in Australia) is just 2 acoustic guitars going back and forth.

Eh, we all have different opinions. To me, it's the best disc I've heard in a long time by any group.

Adding a piano to the same song structure that filled the acoustic disc on the last album doesn't exactly qualify as innovation in my book.

The Foos sound got stale -- in about 2001. They've done little or nothing to change it. The Foos operate by an "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" style of songwriting, and it's getting really old with me.

It's not quite to the point of "If you've heard one Foos album, you've heard them all," but it's getting close. This is a very efficient, very skilled but also very boring band these days, quite the contrast from its debut in the mid-90s.

The Foos aren't Nickelback, thank God, but they're certainly not an innovative, exciting band anymore, either. The Foos are the Budweiser of rock, trying to be everything to everybody and ending up being bland as hell.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, dude!

P.S.: How many times does Dave Grohl say "Why'd you have to go and let it die?" in "Let It Die?" Another example of the standard Grohl fare of beating a chorus into the ground until there's no carcass, just dust.

              Take care,
              PK

Funny thing is, I swear too many people abandon bands whenever they do innovate and test themselves, saying "Oh my GOD!!! That doesn't even sound like [insert band name]! They suck now!" It's pretty much lose-lose for modern day mainstream music.

I've never looked at the Foo Fighters as a terribly innovative band. They've always been that band that doesn't do anything new, but puts out some pretty good songs (kinda like Creed in its early days), and are incredibly talented, especially Grohl behind the mic.

Ugh. As much as I woe the lack of innovation by the Foo Fighters, it's the ultimate insult to lump in this band with utter garbage like Creed!

Creed wasn't garbage until their 3rd album. Yeah, Scott Stapp is a loser, but My Own Prison was a good CD. They're music is criticized too much just because it was popular/overplayed and Stapp does stupid crap. Plus, I wasn't putting them at the same level, rather using an analogy that people liked Creed's songs, but they didn't bring anything new to the table.

Creed was awful from the minute it formed and started rehearsing. One of the most tired, tedious, derivative bands of the last 15 years.

Thankfully, people had enough taste to banish this band to the bargain bin for good.

Nothing can beat "The Colour and the Shape" IMO. M.I.A.'s Kala is the album of the year for me.
