The Best New Show: Pushing Daisies (ABC)

Almost every critic known to man is saying Pushing Daisies is by far the best of new fall shows and one of the best shows period. This is after seeing only one episode. It may be premature to claim this, but I watched the pilot myself and it was fantastic. If the show can maintain this level of quality, it may surpass Friday Night Lights and Lost as my favorite show on TV.

Here is what TV Guide had to say about the show:

And here is a fansite that has compiled reviews for the show.

    http://www.thepiemaker.com/archives/...isies-reviews/

For those who don't know, Pushing Daisies is a show about a piemaker named Ned with a unique ability. He bring the dead back to life by touching them. However, touch them twice and they stay dead for good.

This ability, however, is not without its problems. Life and Death have a funny way of balancing themselves out, so if Ned brings someone back to life, and they stay alive for more than a minute, someone else will drop-dead in their place.

So what is a piemaker to do with such a unique ability? Solve murder mysteries, of course. Cash rewards are often offered to those with any information on the murderer. Since Ned can bring people back to life, all he has to do is touch a murder victim, ask him or her who the murderer was, and then touch them before a minute elapses, ensuring that they will now stay dead and that someone else will not be taken in their place. The result? The best new show on TV.

I'll be watching this next Wednesday at 8. Anyone else?

Hmm, didn't know the premise of the show. That seems more interesting than what I originally thought.

I just thought it was going to be a typical drama about two people in love. At least that's what the advertising posters and billboards hint at everywhere.

Poor advertising then because I had no idea that this show was about a guy with a unique ability to bring people back from the dead. Life and death was never suggested in any advertisement.

I'll check this out online tomorrow.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I was interested the first time I heard about it....just so many new shows it almost got lost in the shuffle. Thursday I'll set my DVR and hope I can fit it in. I have too much tv set to record all ready so I know some of them will get cut.

If you can find some way to watch the pilot, like I did, I would definitely recommend it. I read that ABC leaked the pilot, and ABC eventually confirmed this, so I searched and found it. I left the show upset because I couldn't watch more. It's that good.

Not to mention, Jim Dale is the narrator, who has won a Grammy for his narration before.

Sounds like Dead Like Me to me...

Eh, I'll give it a shot. Just what I need. ANOTHER television show to watch.

No, next Wednesday. But you can find the pilot online if you know where to look.

                I just read that...

                ***Spoiler Alert***

...Molly Shannon has been cast in a recurring role. She opens up a shop across from Ned's Pie Bakery.

                ***End Spoiler***

The show debuts tonight at 8. I've already seen the pilot, but it's so good I'm going to watch it again.

Just saw the first commercials for "Pushing Daisies" and I kept getting a Big Fish meets Edward Scissorhands vibe from it.

Definitely seems like the direction was influenced by Tim Burton.

Really excited about this show now.

Yeah, Dead Like Me was my ****. Definitely one of the best shows to come around in awhile and f'n Showtime screwed the pooch. Thankfully for me I have both seasons DVD sets.

I only give Showtime the benefit of the doubt because they have Weeds & Californication.

I watched about 15 minutes of Pushing Daisies... eh. Not feeling it so far, but I'll see how I like it at the end of the episode.

It definitely has a quirkiness similar to Dead Like Me. It doesn't seem like the kind of show a lot of OS peeps would enjoy. Its an acquired taste for sure. I thought it was great. This will be the first comedy series I've watched in a very long time.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
