Damn shame, regardless of your stance on drugs / alcohol the girl could sing and it's a shame we didn't get to hear more of her....

Thats a little overboard. She was an addict and very much loved by her family based on how much they tried to do for her. Fighting addiction isn't an easy thing and its not like she didn't try. She went to rehab like 2-3 times in the last two years.

With all due respect, you have no idea what I have or haven't seen, so I'd drop that mode of thinking. But, I guess I'll just bow out now. Not worth it.

I agree , everyone deals with this subject matter differently when faced with it. What I said wasn't meant to be directed toward you. But at the same time many in this thread are speaking out of line. I too will bow out and leave it alone.

Can't say I was surprised when I saw this today. I do feel sorry for her b/c obviously she was a tortured soul (no one drinks/drugs it up as she did if they aren't) but she was a grown *** woman and knew the risks of her habits.

Looking at the 27 club it brings me back to a statement I made while talking about MJ's death a few weeks back....

To me true genius often borders on insanity and it's a very fine line between the two.

Exactly. Everyone has crap in their lives. Not everyone chooses to put chemicals in their body that don't belong there to cope. I always feel bad for the parents of junkies. You know people talk about your kid and you also know they are right. Must be an awful feeling.

As for the the rest of the defenders, try to be less on the "victims" side. Realize that people have to be responsible for their actions. Finally, it's not required to feel sorry for every celebrity who pisses their life away.

Anyone who uses drugs is an idiot? I guess if someone has to take pot for a medical condition is an idiot too?

We don't live in a world of absolutes...That's all i'm sayin'.

I have no sympathy for Winehouse or any other celebrity taking drugs but i'm sure 80% of the folks on this message board has at least tried a drug of one kind or another in their lives. Sometimes a drug can end up being a gateway to harder drugs and lead one down a deep and dark rabbit hole and other times it's just a lark and you never touch the stuff again.

Who knows exactly how Amy Winehouse got into drugs or any other celeb for that matter. She should've taken the warnings from family and friends to heart and kicked her habit but she rebelled against it and look what it did to her. One can choose not to have personal sympathy for her but I think as a fellow human being it's okay to sympathize with the family and for the circumstances that surrounded her death.

She was foolish but the loss of life no matter how it occurred is still a tragic thing.

Too many artists see drugs as a catalyst to creativity. And in the end it's their need to remain creative through the use of drugs that kills them. Not sure if that was the case with her but she really didn't care what happened to her. She probably saw this coming too and felt helpless to stop it.

I'm not proud that she died, but I have no sympathy for her. For her family, the people that cared for her, that's where my condolences stand.

They made an effort and couldn't help her.

Call me jaded, but when you live through those circumstances of seeing someone you love ruin themselves, it's extremely difficult to show remorse for the passing of another person for the same reasons.

I've shed my tears over this. I can't shed another.
