I seriously think they could have made that list with JUST rappers. But IMO most rap just plain sucks and is for unintelligent people. The MTV crowd if you will.

I might forward that link to a co-worker who lives and dies with Rush...he might start killing people.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

No I'm dead serious. 50 Cent, Ludacris, Nelly, Eminem, Afroman, Dr Dre, Ja Rule, Game, Lil John and most others just flat out suck. If you can tell me rappers like this are good lyricists than pass me whatever you're smoking. Now I didn't say all rap sucks but the majority of it does. LOL so many of em are fake, made up personas put together to make money, it's silly. One of my biggest gripes against rap is how can you claim to be something you're not. It automatically discredits them as artists. Not to mention most rappers don't even make their own beats. I give terrible bands like Limp Bizkit more respect than 99% of rappers, at least they have to have SOME talent seeing they have to play instruments. When I hear todays youth talk like they do after listening to rappers I just shake my head. Songs about ho's, bling, selling crack and killing people are just a terrible message. And to restate I never said ALL rap was terrible, but when the mainstream rap is just trash it just makes a bad name for all rap.

                1. Dr Dre and Lil Jon are producers, not rappers

                2. If you could rhyme one one-hundredth as well as Nelly, Luda, or Eminem, you'd be rich as hell.

Aren't there tons of underground rappers that people always say "Blow Nelly, Luda, and the mainstream rappers away" but aren't rich?

You can say this nonsense about any mainstream group in any genre.

Often because they don't have the image.

A lot of non-famous rappers make bank by writing. Rhymefest (I believe that's who) and Gillie made **** loads of money ghostwriting for Kanye and Lil Wayne. If you can write, you can make money.

You couldn't say it about the original grunge bands.

First, considering the fact that the list is for rock lyricist that's pretty absurd, not to mention the fact that Anthony Keidis himself is worse than the majority of mainstream artists, regardless of genre.

Anyway, anybody that includes ****in' Afroman in a sentence as to why rap lyricists suck (majority anyway) obviously isn't searching deep enough, even within the mainstream. I have to disagree about Eminem, however. He may be over the top and extreme and his recent stuff may be ****, but the man can write some great lyrics (ie: Stan).

LOL so many of em are fake, made up personas put together to make money, it's silly. Why are you picking on rap with this ridiculous stereotyping? Every genre has its own posers, just look at the crap Nashville is pushing out as country, or Nickelback and all those "emo" bands that popped up two years ago. I find it hard to believe that all of those bands aren't acts. Limp Bizkit is a no-talent ***-clown and anybody willing to give him artistic merit is completely off base here, especially when we are talking about lyricists and not instrumentalists; however, if I'm not mistaken I believe most producers actually play some type of instrument whenever they make their beats, not that that topic is relevant in this thread.

When I hear todays youth talk like they do after listening to rappers I just shake my head. Anybody that steps foot inside a high-school these days knows very well that along with all the hip-hop poser bangers, you got your fair share of classic rock and goth fakers as well (tell me you haven't seen Dark Side of the Moon t-shirts in a high-school hallway). Its either blame the music or just blame the kids for being ignorant. The songs about ho's, money/bling, drugs, and violence have been around for much longer than hip hop and are in all genres of music, so its really not far to put the spotlight on hip hop and throw tomatoes at it like its so inferior and more explicit than any other music.

It seems to me that if you're making a list like this then you need to focus on musicians/lyricists whose "best stuff" or most popular stuff is filled with terrible lyrics. Paul McCartney? Robert Plante? Sure, that "freedom isn't free" song was brutal but I'm sure he had a say in some of the Beatles stuff. Heck, a lot of Lennon's post-Beatles stuff was lousy too. Robert Plante should probably get a pass for being part of that who Led Zeppelin thing too (and Ramble On is a great song aside from the random weird Tolkien thing).

Creed though, Creed's lyrics were awful. Every day I don't hear them on the radio is a good day.
