I don't know, I think adding even more teams would make it tougher to really care/hate some of the existing teams (too watered down)...

I love The Amazing Race, but the one thing they could do to make it better... MY WISH LIST I should say is actually pretty simple. It'd be a pain in the *** to film and edit, but...

      STOP LEVELING THE FIELD!

Let teams get leads. If a team is a couple countries ahead... so be it. They're just better. Don't have pitstops, have elimination points. Say at Noon on Tuesday the team that is the furthest behind is out. Boom. Over.

Or, even better, don't eliminate anyone if you don't want to. Race starts here... ends here... make sure you hit all the points.... see ya in 30 days. If you want to make finishing order valuable, let it effect the amount of money they get from that point forward.

I'm just sick of the "airport equalizers" and BS that really takes the RACE part out of the show.

I agree completely. More teams means there are too many to follow, and it increases costs for CBS because they pay compensation to the teams for missed work. Not only that, but you are adding extra production costs such as airfare to the increased number of teams. Having a TBC leg (to be continued) keeps teams in the same country, which means no costly flights.

So if you eliminate the extra teams to avoid over-saturation, you are left with two options.

1: Have 11 legs, 8 of them elimination. With an off-week or recap show in the middle you can stretch the show out to 3 months.

2: Get rid of the TBC legs completely. You are then left with 8 episodes, or two months.

CBS will never schedule a show that lasts only two months. If you schedule two incarnations of the show, one in the fall and one in the spring (and all evidence points to that happening this year), you need the show to last long enough so that the hiatus in-between incarnations is minimal. With a two month air-time, the hiatus becomes far too long, and there are only so many "Special Two-Hour Cold-Case" episodes you can air in one season.

The 8 episode format would have been foolish especially given the fact that when production on The Race started, CBS feared a possible writer's strike and wanted signature shows that could stay on the air for extended periods of time.

For those wondering what the ratings were The Amazing Race jumped out to its largest premiere ratings ever and higher ratings than any episode that aired in the previous two cycles last year.

The show brought in 13.8 million viewers, a 30% increase over the premiere of the All-Stars Edition.

I hate the equalizers but you need them for the show to work. There would be no suspense if one team was way behind everybody else in numerous episodes.

Just imagine if the season finale didn't have "bunching" and the winning team arrived a few days before the other 2 remaining teams... the ratings would probably drop since you know who wins the race halfway through the episode.

I would like to know why TAR isn't in HD. We aren't talking about some little show on the TLC channel here.

Yeah, I really hate the equalizers too, but could it be entertaining all season without them? It'd kinda be like Nascar used to be, before the Chase for the Cup. The last 10 races of the season might not mean a thing because someone has it so locked up. Would people still watch if one group was 1 or 2 days ahead?

I agree that there needs to be suspense, but most of the bunching is realistic. If Supermarket X is only open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., teams shouldn't be able to arrive at midnight and just enter. That also might ruin a Detour they had planned if it was a "selling food" challenge.

And as for the airport equalizers, there are only a limited number of flights. Many times teams are all going to wind up on the same one.

The solution of eliminating the Pit-stops would work, but you couldn't have timed eliminations. What if the last two teams were driving to the same Detour but are both lost? How do you judge which team is further ahead? Is it closest to the Detour? But that would be an anticlimactic elimination, especially if one team was closer but driving in the wrong direction.

i really feel like the producers have tampered with the flights in the past just to add suspense in the end. one of the final flights to the pit stop city seemed to be held at the very last moment so that a second team could be added.
i think it was rob and amber on the flight with uchenna and joyce being put on. to me that's just wrong.

People made accusations of that happening, but it would be impossible for the producers to delay a commercial plane that non-racers are flying on. Especially since the producers weren't even there at the airport, but instead in the U.S. prepping the finish and editing the episodes. A lot of people don't know this but after the finish they hold a wrap-party where they show the completed first two episodes of the season.

Not only that, but if I recall a while back the pilot of that flight was interviewed and he said he HATED Rob and Amber from survivor, recognized the Amazing Race and didn't want them to win.

Either way, that is one instance where I do not feel the producers interfered.

I've been screaming about this since Ho and Hack or Flo & Zack or whatever their names were. They were literally 36 hours behind because she kept crying that she couldn't do anything and wanted to go home.

The producers let them all catch up, they pick the lucky taxi and they win $1 million. I thought for sure from that point on, that the race has been rigged to some point.

I think they should give them a choice of doing each task or keep going. Each task would be worth a time bonus and they could do it or keep going. That would create a lot of strategy and make them take risk of whether they could catch an early flight if they skipped the task or skip the task and be in the same place as everyone else.

The producers don't let them catch up. Everything is planned so far in advance they can't make sudden changes in season. And an airline isn't going to modify a flight schedule/delay a flight when there are non-racers relying on that flight.

"Hey, umm...Could you delay this flight for two hours? I know some people probably have connecting flights to get to, but we're filming this TV show, and..."

Not to mention the fact that in Season four (the one after Flo and Zack won) a team finished more than 24 hours behind the winners, Reichen and Chip.

I originally hated the father/daughter team because they were too sappy. Now I hate them because he's a jacka**. He was absent for much of her childhood, and that was probably a good thing, though she may not realize this. I hate to think what it would have been like if he had been around when she was little. He first pissed me off when he tried to give the lecture at the stand-by counter in the airport. You don't lecture someone else's kid, who you barely even know, if you're not their parent. Oh wait, he's not even a kid. He's 22. Even worse. Yeah, he was rude. But shut up and stick to your own business, to your own team. On second thought, don't do that, because you're telling your daughter (and I repeat YOUR DAUGHTER) that she needs to lose weight, all because she had difficulty with a pole-vaulting task. First of all, she definitely does not need to lose weight. Second of all, you don't freaking say that to your own kid. Upset with challenge performance? Do the damn challenge yourself. Oh, that's right, you tried that with the furniture lifting challenge. But you couldn't tie a single knot and had to switch things over the bike challenge. That was after not listening to your daughter as she tried to explain that she could tie the knots. Does she criticize you for task struggles? No. But that doesn't seem to matter. Everything is her fault. Neither of you communicate which side of the bikes to look at, but it's her fault for not reading your mind. She tells you everything you say is like "blow after blow" to the face. You say you'll improve. And then you tell her she needs to lose weight. Great improvement.

Can anyone tell this guy aggravates me a little bit?

On to more positive things, this was another great leg. I loved the pole-vaulting challenge, and the grandfather "going Tarzan" was scary yet hilarious. The Goths are a much stronger team than I expected.

Rachel & TK and Azaria & Hendekea are quickly becoming my two favorite teams. They are supportive of each other without the constant criticism you see from other teams. When TK began to get frustrated during the "furniture" detour he suggested he and his partners switch roles, which is what should have happened with Nathan and Jennifer. Instead, the "you are the worst at this ever" girl and "unfaithful" guy chose to yell and scream.

Agreed on pretty much every point.

The father is such an *******, I hope they get eliminated next week. I can't stand him.

I like Rachel & TK and the grandson/grandfather team (I forget their names).

I agree with rsnomar too. He hit the nail on the head. I was so annoyed with the dad because his attitude is just so evil and mean. I can understand teams arguing, but he was just being completely unreasonable.

It was hilarious again this episode, the unfaithful guy said something like "but the other girls are doing it" and she just yelled "don't go there". That group is going to implode soon.

Azaria & Hendekea are my favorite, and the grandpa/grandsone, TK & Rachel, and the long term dating couple are ok...

I don't mind the Goths, just don't know anything about them besides the fact they're goths. They are going to be around a while though.
