Re: Toshiba HD-DVD A2 Player $98 at Walmart
the thing is you need an HDTV (cheap or not) to properly enjoy a highdef player. and even though they are cheap now to go with this Ad, the movies are $25-$30...not too many people will bite on movies being that price at this point in time.Comment

Yeah, there is about 725 of them on there...........I bet these people will either eat them or people will get them at around $100. Too many of them on ebay.Comment

Any chance they have another deal like this closer to Christmas?
Or even a permanent price drop?Comment

I've never gone shopping on Black Friday. The A3 deal would make it worth the hassle, to at least give it a shot.Comment

This is the better deal than the $169 due to the hassle on Black Friday + you get 3 free movies to pick at the store.Comment

Eights, Best Buy still has the A3 at 199.99 when you add it to the cart. Plus you get 300 + Bourne Identity in the box + you can choose 3 HD-DVD's of your own. Then you also get the 5 free through the mail.

I will definitely think about this one.Comment

Re: Toshiba HD-DVD A2 Player $98 at Walmart
This guy over at AVS said it best:
If you really believe that then you've been breastfed on Blu Kool-Aid. The HD DVD camp let out whispers about this early this year. That where the rumors about sub $200 no name Chinese players came from. Then there was the continued gradual price cuts across all HD DVD players. Then there was the slow period in the summer when HD DVD standalone sales plateau for a little while.
My guess is they held inventory, let Blu Ray tout some standalone stats for a couple of months, all the while stockpiling for a holiday Blitzkreig. They showed their cards to Paramount, and Paramount joined up. All that was left to do is start the attack.
The warning shot was the 360 add on + Heroes deal. Then 5 free deals on A2 & A30s with 2 already in the box and 2 instantly.
This $98 deal is to show they're serious. Deadly serious.
This will do damage. If the BDA doesn't compete pricewise, consumers will see they can get an HD DVD player, 5 or more free movies AND buy 3 to 4 more for the same price as a single Blu Ray player.
That's no contest for the average consumer. None.
Should PS3 sales show a chance of picking up, MS will just cut 360 prices a bit lower to give people a second thought. Let's not forget there are still millions of 360 owners who don't yet have the add on player. They could throw another Heroes like deal anytime they want.
Check.
And there are alot of them out there who have had HDTVs without an HD movie player to go with it. And plenty more who'll buy an HDTV this holiday season.
Could be Checkmate.
This IS the beginning of the end, or at the very least the beginning of the balancing of the playing field.Comment

Re: Toshiba HD-DVD A2 Player $98 at Walmart
Can anyone explain the primary differences between the A2 and and the A3. I bought the A2 at Wal-Mart Friday for $99 but am considering this deal instead because of the movies. Is the extra $100 worth it on the A3?Comment
