Re: Project Hopes to Expand Lifespans to 1,000 years
I wouldn't be surprised if government gets involved and finds a way to prevent this research from being possible.
It makes sense to help people live longer but it's no good for this world if people could live 10x longer than they do now. Our system isn't built for people to live that long. It's built on the fact that people die in 67 years.
Think about the problems this world is already planned to face given that life expectancy continues to rise.
I know people want to live forever but this just wouldn't work. Life would be worse."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

But like I said this could lead to humans going out to colonize other planets. If we just stayed here then I agree, it would need to be stopped.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: Project Hopes to Expand Lifespans to 1,000 years
We aren't close to that. I agree that it would make things easier and would solve a lot of the issues that will undoubtedly arise if people lived for 1000 years. I just don't see how the technology of living in other planets is going to really take effect in the time it'll take to discover the technology needed to help people live 10x longer.
It's possible that it'll be too late by that time."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Project Hopes to Expand Lifespans to 1,000 years
But this is technology that is believed to be possible in 10 years. Colonizing in other planets is not happening anytime soon. First we'd have to establish how we can live there, who will go there, why they should be able to go there, and how they will survive. Then they'd have to build the dome that will contain the necessary elements needed for survival.

Re: Project Hopes to Expand Lifespans to 1,000 years
First if we can make a person live to say 1000 yrs old or somewhere close to that. We as a race would be going into a whole new paradigm, where nano-technology(NT) would be able to make alot of things we don't have enough of now: food, drinkable water, clothing, shelter, heat, travel, etc... Now with that being said, money will then become irrelevant to a point where we wont need it. Which will leave only the most unattainable things left to do, i.e: space travel, exploring the deep sea oceans, etc... I could go alot deeper into this subject but feel the need to just give a brief synopsis.

Re: Project Hopes to Expand Lifespans to 1,000 years
Sure its being researched, but the closest planet that appears to be habitable is thousands of light years away. I don't see how its going to be possible to colonize other planets and be self sustainable. Sure you could set up colonies on Mars for example as a station, but everything on a planet like Mars would have to be supplied by the earth and that won't solve the population problem. Someone will either have to come up with time travel or teleportation to make colonizing a realistic proposition. And that won't be any time soon.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

I'm all for it.
I would become a professional journalist/stock broker/chef/space pilot/laser grenadier/wizard/Starship Commander/Wormhole Operator/Masseuse.
I'd run the gambit of careers that would occur over the next 1000 years.
Just think if this were possible today. You'd have people walking around who were born in 1002....they were born in a friggin' Castle Keep and had to fight wandering bands of Vikings trying to pillage their village growing up..and now they are on myspace.AUBURN TIGERS

I wouldn't accept living that long. For one, I would be satisfied to live 80 years, then I am ready to go.Comment
