Gotcha...I just saw that it's the more expensive plan you can do that with...on Wikipedia they said until July you could do that with all plans, but now the other plans are limited in the returns to stores. Obviously the stores were getting killed by having so many movies out...I don't think that is a viable long term option. Otherwise stores would just have a "Pay 20 bucks rent all you want" type plan.

It will stay like that for two years after your last purchase with that card. After that time it deducts $2 every month.

Wow, this thread sucks. I thought it was closing, not a blogger guessing it would be closing in 2 years.

Agreed. I got all nervous because I'm a Total Access subscriber.

Very, very misleading title and selective quoting from the BLOG entry.

I got it last September, and it expires 12/31 this year. I think that's when it deducts, right?

Should be next Sept, it should start deducting the amount. It says all of this on the back of the card.

Just think, if Blockbuster had come out with the same model as GameznFlix they would have easily taken down Netflix and Gamefly. Stupid business decisions will always do you in.

so how the heck am I supposed to rent movies? Hollywood just closed up in our area, but the Blockbuster down the street is doing great. I hope it doesn't close... otherwise we won't have any movie shops in the area.

BB better stay open. I have one down the street and it makes it stupidly easy to rent games. I like their service and hope they stay up.

Blockbuster won't close down. The blogger is making this prediction based on them losing money every year.

All that'll happen is Blockbuster shutting down their stores and sticking with online rentals.

That's going to happen some day because there is no more money in video rental stores. Nothing BB does will change that.

I think there is money in rentals, just not enough money to sustain a big corporation like Blockbuster...there will always be local chains. People will never stop going "Hey honey, let's rent 'X' tonight", then go and rent a movie. Online sites are great (I'm with Netflix right now), but it really really blows for the impulse movie rental.

Perhaps as downloading movies becomes more feasible (faster, somehow able to watch on my HDTV, etc) then b&m stores will die. Even then, it'll take a while. HDTV still hasn't taken over from standard def yet, and it's been around for quite a while.
