    Blockbuster Video Going Under!

    Say goodbye to Blockbuster

It looks like the bottom has finally fallen out of Blockbuster. After numerous failed attempts at attracting new customers, the company is finally spiraling out of control.

Sad as it is, the end is near for Blockbuster, and all that pressure it has been placing on Netflix will be lifted.

And in the end, Netflix will be left standing to fight another day.

Not exactly surprising. You can pay $5 for a movie and keep it for 2-7 days, or you can, for $20 get 10-20 movies a month with a far superior selection that you can keep as long as you want.

I think most people have seen this coming for a good while now. Blockbuster has always been my least favorite rental store in my area since they have been around.

Good! The company sucks. They should go away now!

This isn't an announcement of anything, it's speculation from a blogger.

I think Netflix will continue to lose customers as people figure out that you can trade Blockbuster movies in at the store. I've used BB & Netflix and definitely prefer BB due to the the speed at which I get new releases and the ability to trade in at the store.

I personally think Blockbuster's Total Access program where you can turn in online rented movies at the store for free movies or discount game rentals is great. I'll miss them it if it goes away.

People predicted this two years ago for Blockbuster, but they are still there and the store I am employed at is doing just fine.

Exactly. No company that large is going to call it quits that easy.

Total Access is a tremendous program. And before BB would go away, they would enhance it to try and gain more customers. They'll probably join the online DL movement as well.

Always preferred Netflix to BB, especially since I was a BB Online customer before the huge changes.

The only plus for me is that the two around me have a decent supply of blu-ray (small section of new & "notable" releases on the wall, and then an aisle), but since I'm an online rental vet, I know how to manage my Netflix account and enjoy a lot of titles without being throttled.

they will eventually fade away if they continue to focus primarily as a B&M business. The trend is shifting to online now, but even in a few years, more cable companies will be offering new DVD releases as part of an on demand service. What's easier than just paying a monthly fee, and then being able to watch however many new releases you want from your tv, without driving to a store, or even mailing anything?

I still think that they still make too much money and have too many stores to just give up.

No, you pay 20 bucks a month and you can have 3 movies shipped to you at any time. You return those 3 movies to the store, and get any 3 movies for free while they send your movies back, so you could have 6 at a time total (the 3 you got for free from the store and the 3 on their way). You get 2 free movie/game rental coupons a month, maybe thats what you were thinking about.
