Re: what is the biggest challenge our generation will face...

I don't think climate change will be an issue for this generation, it'll be further off in the future.

I agree w. the poster who said the deterioration of the family unit. Plus the general selfishness, need for instant gratification and lack of a work ethic/laziness is going to be a huge problem for this generation. This ties into several other issues such as obesity, etc.

But I'd imagine parents have been saying that about their child's generation for years - however technology is the x-factor now.

            .
You're crazy if you think this is further off in the future. The signs are all around us. Let's not bury our heads under the sand here.

Anyways i'd say the biggest challenges are climate change and peak oil/looking for viable alternative fuels. (Do what Brazil is doing and go all Ethanol!)

Yeah, we're all crazy if we don't all believe in junk science that is either totally unfounded, totally unproven, or a total myth to begin with.

What craziness. "Climate change" has become a big business. Don't be a sucker.

I'm sure a lot of it is "junk science" but personally i've seen a lot of abnormal weather patterns right here in my own neck of the woods to know that things aren't quite right.

Maybe it's just a phase like the "Little Ice Age" either way we should at least do SOMETHING rather then just sit idly by.

How is it "junk science" exactly? You'd be pretty hard pressed to find a legitimate scientist that would argue against the fact that the planet is getting warmer. There is some debate as to whether or not we are causing/contributing to it (I can't for the life of me imagine how the amount of carbon getting burned daily isn't contributing to it), but there is no debate that the planet is getting warmer, the ice is melting, etc.

Whether we're causing it or not, it's going to have a huge impact on the way we live our lives.

I dont think it'll be an immediate effect. Climate change may take dozens if not hundreds of years to fully effect the globe at the rate we're going right now. I dont expect within the next 10 years for the world to all of sudden have this trememdous shift in our climate. Surely, our seasons are being knocked off course but thats also due to the way our earth orbits around the sun and spins on its axsis.

See, that's the thing though. "Abnormal weather patterns" are what we used to call "weather." Unless you're seeing some kind of catastrophic events on a Biblical scale, I'm pretty sure what you're seeing isn't on the kind of levels that would cause us all to reexamine our lives.

Remember when all the genius climatologists predicted all the awful hurricanes and tropical storms this year? How'd that work out?

The reason for this is because climate change is big business and those scientists want grant money. No university researcher in his right mind is going to deny climate change and give up all that cash to continue his way of life.

So, those polar bears running out of ice to live on are looking for handouts, too? You're really going to suggest that the planet isn't warmning and the polar ice caps aren't melting?
