Re: what is the biggest challenge our generation will face...

Oh, and it really scares me that some people are able to apply this kind of skepticism towards what an overwhelming number of scientists say is happening, but not towards BS things coming out of politicians mouths on issues as important as wars. Some people don't believe in "theories" like global warming and evolution, but enjoy their daily horoscopes and believe that all Scorpios behave the same way.

I did a 50 page paper on Global Warming my senior year of college in '05. It's a theory, do a little research. There is absolutely no scientific proof that global warming exists.

As I said in a prior post, GW is the most misunderstood thing on the planet.

I don't think there will be a cure for cancer within our generation. There's too much money to be made from the cancer industry. Like Chris Rock said, the money is in the treatment, not the cure.
I agree on erosion of civil liberty. That's the nature of any government: it slowly becomes centralized, and citizens' rights are slowly eroded. It may take several generations, but that's the way it evolves. Remember, no republic has ever lasted.

This is very true. People joke around about it, and I know this is a place where we all practice sarcasm and humor, but we certainly do need to be very concerned about the poison of instant gratification. It used to be necessity was the mother of invention. I believe that we have gotten to the point to where convenience has become the mother of invention. We want "it" faster, better and more efficiently. Now, that's not exactly a bad thing, but I think you can find that premise at the center of many peoples' debt, divorce etc.

What is to be gained by not believing in this? Are you hoping you'll look cool someday in the future and say, "See, I told you not to worry"? What would be so bad about reacting to what can clearly be seen - the planet is warming at a rate that is going to cause significant problems and endanger lives? Maybe we can't do anything about it, but would it be so bad to try? Are you that attached to plastic bags from the grocery store? Are you that much in love with burning oil and gas instead of other alternatives? Some of the changes that can be made are pretty easy to do and will actually benefit you anyway, global warming or not.

                        I don't get the resistance.

mars is warming at the same time as earth? what is causing that? no evil humans on mars.

the earth previously experienced an ice age prior to any significant human pollution. what caused the melting and end to that ice age when there were no evil u.s. people driving their suv s around?

documented fact that the eath undergoes cooling and heating cycles . silly and arrogant to think "man" can control the climate.

the "bad" comes in when we let world leaders/opinion/etc tell us how to live and we give up our liberties/sovereignty for so-called safety provided by the al gores of the world who will "save" us from the evil man-made warming. a global tax has been named as the "solution" to this problem. hahahahahaha

that is why you see it made into such a problem. same type guys were screaming "global cooling" back in the 70s

2 min search on the internet will show many scientists dispute this theory.
