With the previous model FW and software, this wasn't possible. Not too sure if it has changed with Zune2.

So with the Zune, you can't just use it like an external hard drive and transfer files in Windows Explorer? I was thinking of getting one of these because of the 360 compatibility, but I absolutely loathe having to use a program to transfer music, especially if it isn't iTunes (since I use that to listen to music).

There was a hack to get the original zune to act as an external drive. I don't know if it works with the new firmware, but I'm sure someone will get it to work if it doesn't.

Right, you can't use it like an external HDD.

aholdbert mentioned that he rips all his music in itunes and then makes sure that the same folder is being shared with the Zune software so his music could get tagged properly when being loaded into the Zune. This way you can listen to it from both.

What I really am asking is if I could upload music that is on a friends computer, then upload music on my computer. With the Ipod, you can't do this unless you use a third party program.

I dont think you can. The major Mp3 player makers (Apple, Sansa, MS) dont want to allow that because they believe it encourages piracy.

You can remove and copy files from the 80 using the hack but I dont think you can add them. The hack is really simple and there is a application that does it for you.

Keeping all files in one folder also helps if I ever decide to go back to an ipod.
