I read the story in HS and loved it.

The movie looks very questionable. I'll see it some time but probably will be dissapointed. I do generally like Zemeckis flics, but don't picture him doing a movie like this. Looks cheesy, but is getting decent reviews.

lol, it's obviously a good story for it to be around since forever. I just wonder how the whole CGI movie will be.

I enjoyed it a lot. I would definitely recommend it to those who are thinking about seeing it. The music is fantastic too!

heard there are a couple changes from the story to movie... either way, I'm still interested in seeing it sometime soon.

Friend of mine saw it, here's what he had to say:

I went in with high expectations and I was really really really disappointed. They start off the story alright, sticking to the book for the first half an hour. After that though, it all goes downhill. I recently read the poem so I can point out tons of things that they changed/left out. True that movies can't include all the things of their book counterpart but this was only 100 minutes, so there was a lot of room to add more stuff in. I felt so cheated halfway through but I kept on watching. This is a travesty of a movie compared to the poem, but if it was a stand-alone flick it would work. The amount of liberty that they took with the story...to put it politely, they should be punished a lot (well not really Neil Gaiman because he wrote Stardust so he's forgiven ). If they had marketed it as very loosely based on Beowulf, then I wouldn't have been disappointed.

On to the actors/dialogue. I thought the voice actors were all good and I liked Brendan Gleeson a lot. The dialogue is cheesy at times. For example, Beowulf says "I am Beowulf!" about a hundred times throughout the movie.

The only thing that saved this movie from getting a terrible score are the visuals. They were fantastic. The CG actors looked great and the visuals overall were just excellent.

If you have never read the poem, you might like the movie more than I did.

5/10 (C'mon Zemeckis! You made Back to the Future trilogy, which was awesome. Pull your act together. Same goes to the writers)
                    PS: You guys are great.

My girlfriend and I saw this over the weekend and we both really enjoyed it.

Now, as far as "I am Beowolf!" replacing "This is Sparta!"... well, they are both definetely catchy... but King Leonidas is still the ultimate badass.

Well, take it as a movie and not a great poem turned into a film. It is definitely an action movie opposed to a film. I read the poem and enjoyed it, and also say the movie and enjoyed it.

Until I hear a story of a guy kicking a girl down the steps in a movie theater while shouting "I am Beowulf!" it won't reach the epic proportions of "This is Sparta!"
(BTW I don't know if it was here, or somewhere else, but I really did hear of a story of a guy kicking a girl down the steps at a movie theater all the while shouting "This is Sparta!")
