His name alone gets your attention.

One of the greatest artists of our time, it's a shame all the garbage and strange things he's gone through. You would think someone this talented wouldn't be as insane.

I was watching Smooth Criminal this morning and it's absolutely incredible. There aren't many music videos the same caliber as MJ's back in the day. B/w this, Bad, Billie Jean and most famous of all THRILLER, this guy was just an incredible musician and performer.

Agree, disagree? Can you separate the artist and apparently strange individual or are they one and the same?

MJ is very talented, it is just a shame that this dude turned into a very strange individual wrecking most of his legacy in the process. I have a little hard time separating the two at times.

I can hear people say his name when referring to his good ol' days, and I can hear it when referring to what he's currently going through. Yes, I can separate him into two different people very easily.

Naaa-Although I can respect talent in any given field of music (even if I don't care for the music or person in question)-MJ doesn't and won't work for me. I like music that is more classic rock or hard rock oriented. Sorry if this seemed like trolling-it isn't-just my 2 on MJ.

What do you mean? Even if you don't like his music (which was rare) he was easily one of the biggest musical icon's in the late 20th century.

Between his solo work and the Jackson 5... this guy was talented anyway you look at it.

Yeah MJ was the man. It seems like I am always having some type of discussion about just how talented this guy is, if you go back and look at it, it's almost unbelievable. I have a lot of old Jackson 5 vids favorited on Youtube, I check em' out and am constantly wowed by lil Michael.

It's hard for me to separate who he was then to who he is now. Everytime I see the old stuff I am automatically drawn to his downfall, they go one in the same, amazing talent, but homosexual pedophile.

Let me clarify... Is he talented? absolutely. Do I respect that? yes. Do I like the kind of music he does? nope. The attention he gets in his private life has no bearing whatsoever on my opinion. I like bands that have bizarre lifestyles. Once again-I wasn't trying to start something. I was just giving a honest opinion.

I saw a magazine with him on the cover while I was in line at the grocery store the other day. I thought just what this topic talks about.

Definitely the king of pop, Michael Jackson is an artist that has some serious personal issues. I can still remember that ABC interview where he kept denying extravagant cosmetic surgery.

Musical Genius. Funny to think he could've reached even higher heights when you look at how big he was/is. The guy was born with talent, you can almost argue young MJ vs 80's MJ as far as which was better. Let me stop before I gush, but it is really undeniable.

Is he really putting out a new album? I'm afraid it will bomb. Not in terms of sales, but quality-wise... it just won't compare. His music progressively got worse as he got older after Dangerous, IMO.

Looking back at his career-it would be impossible to deny his talent on any level. AND-I do remember when Beat it came out-I rocked out to that more than once on my guitar at home.

Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer and most talented singer/dancer I have ever seen. I cannot think of anyone with his amount of natural talent. To top that off, he is a perfectionist. If you watch any of his performances you will be amazed by his attention to detail. He has influenced musicians, dancers, and songwriters all over the world and his work will be remembered for ages.

He has also created an image that is larger than life. No matter where he goes in the world, there are fans and non-fans hunting him down just for a glimpse. There is an energy and magic about him. He has touched more lives in the world than presidents, athletes, and religious leaders. In America, we are bombarded with the media's portrayal of him because it sells, but unfortunately, it has created a real hatred. If you read about what people who know him say about him, you would first feel awed and then feel sad for what he has endured. Obviously, he has personal issues like his dissatisfaction with his appearance, but that is human. He has the resources to create whatever life he wants, and this has angered many people. However, he never changed. He is the same person he was when he sang "ABC" or "Rock With You" or "Billie Jean."

So to answer your question, no I do not have to separate the music and the person. I think he's a musical genius and gift to the world.
