Will Xbox ever have a Blu-Ray Player?
First off is it official that the so called format war is over and has Blu-Ray the chosen champion? Second off if that is the case will Microsoft swallow their pride and offer an external BR Player? I must admit that I wanted HD DVD to win, but from what I've read it doesn't seem that that is the case.
So if it's over then let it be over and Microsoft come on and give us our $199 Bluray Player.....I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific!Tags: None -

HD-DVD software sales are also on the increase.
By no means is the "war" close to being over;Sonys' CEO describes it as a "stalemate" currently.
Paramount going from Blu to HD also helped HDs' chances greatly.
I wouldn't look for Microsoft to help Sony with a Blu-Ray add-on any time soon.
I also wouldn't get your hopes up for a 200 dollar Blu-Ray player of any sort in the near future. They are still more expensive to make than HD DVD players and can only be produced in a very limited number of facilities.PS3/PS4 BradCompanyComment

I don't own either format, and I really don't care. However, fact is, when HD-DVD or Bluray fanboys cite how a movie sells 100k in one week as a success, but the same movie easily sells multi-millions on DVD, then the format "war" is far, far from being decided. HD-DVD just now started to slash prices down to a level that would appeal to everyone else beyond early adapters. Bluray still throws in like 100 free movies as incentive to buy their product.
Things will sway more as the prices comes down. People were freaking out for the $200 20 inch HDTV's on black friday, so the thirst for HD is there, people just don't want to pay $500 for a player, then $30 for the movie yet. It's beyond laughable to decide a format war over when only the early adapters care about it so far. These companies aren't spending billions to appeal only to the people invested in one or the other right now..Last edited by bkfount; 11-26-2007, 12:12 AM.Comment

haha, what a horribly biased, or uninformed question.

My point is, "I wish there were a clear cut winner "whether my chosen format HD DVD" wins out or not! But from the sounds of your other words informing post, sounds like we have a ways to go. ThanksI always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific!Comment

Re: Will Xbox ever have a Blu-Ray Player?
HD DVD has sold more stand-alone players by a sizable amount.
Blu-Ray has sold more movies by a sizable amount.
HD DVD has entry-level players priced lower than blu-ray. For entry level, you are really hurt on both formats. The HD DVD entry level players only do 1080i, and blu-ray entry players lack the FW for more advanced BD-J features for titles being released as early as December.
Both formats offer 5 free movie rebate deals. For the record, Toshiba and the HD DVD Promotions Group started the five free movie deal in the spring.
You can find movies for both as low as $9.99. Need help? No Problem.
Both formats will be around for a while.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

You missed his point, I think. He was talking about the price of movies, which are terrible at B&M, but very affordable online (hence my posting of nine links to cheap HD DVDs and blu-rays).D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

If that's what he is talking about then obviously that's fine, If he's talking about it b/c he thinks Blue Ray has won then that what's I meant.Let's Get Ready To Rumble!Comment
