Re: For those that watched old television shows

I used to watch a lot more TV. Right now, besides sports, the only shows I watch regularly are Pushing Daisies and Survivor. I have to wait for Lost. I was late to The Office, so I'm catching up to those on DVD

I agree that the older sit-coms were better. Some I liked that weren't already mentioned:
    Soap
    Fernwood Tonight
    Family Ties
    Mary Tyler Moore Show
    Bob Newhart Show
    Who's The Boss

Re: For those that watched old television shows

TV has always had shows that are terrible. I grew up watching TV in the late 70's and 80's. To me, there's never been a show like Knight Rider, but I know too that it was, as my father would say, "******ation Incorporated." He'd say that everytime I'd watch that and wrestling (this coming from a guy who had a secret crush on the Zorro series that ran from 1989-94).

When you look back at it, shows like McGuyver, Knight Rider, The Incredible Hulk and the A-Team were very predictable. Yet, they entertained me for hours.

I agree too on the comment on Wings. One of the best comedies ever.

Re: For those that watched old television shows

I don't think TV was better at all back then

I just think that everyone was alot younger and their expectations were alot lower. Same thing with video games. If you don't know any better then of course you're going to say it was great. Plus there is the nostalgia factor where everything in the past seems better.

The variety of tv shows available now is incredible. I do however hate reality TV and unfortunately I highly doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon.

There was never a better time in life than TGIF. Everyone would sit at home on a firday to watch classics like Boy Meets World, Full House and Family Matters. Even Thursdays were great in the 80s when the Cosby Show, Cheers and Night Court would come on. Hell I still remember Sundays with Momas House, Welcome back Carter and the Carol Burnett Show reruns. Those days are sadly gone.

          Favs are:
          Cosby Show
          Boy Meets World
          Full House
          Family Matters
          All in the Family
          Sanford and Son
          Happy Days
          The Jeffersons
          Different Strokes
          Small Wonder
          Knight Rider
          McGuyver
          A-Team
          Miami Vice
          Quantum Leap
          Doogie Howser MD
          Saved By the Bell
          Mamas House
          Cheers
          A Different World
          Punky Brewster
          Perfect Strangers
          Mork and Mindy
          Head of the Class
          *Anything Nickelodeon
          Sliver Spoons
          Coach
          Alf
          My Two Dads
          Taxi
          Whats Happening Now
          Facts of Life
          Dinosaurs.....

the list can go on and on

I bet most who watched these shows can remember the theme songs if not anything else. Cant say that about todays shows.

That's a good point. Hill Street Blues had one of the best.

Some have mentioned Fresh Prince. Does anyone remember that episode where Carlton starts running around the set screaming? That guy would have me in stitches.

Just to name a few...but probably 4 of my favorite shows of all time. Probably considered cheesy now-a-days...but I loved them.
Quantum leap man that show was way ahead of its time and the end really pissed me off, hopefully the rumors about the movie are true.

"All In The Family" is head and shoulders above anything else in your group, although they were decent comedies. For some reason I liked "Maude" too.

Re: For those that watched old television shows

I'm not old enough to legitimately comment on shows of the past 30 years, but while there are a lot of crap shows on now, there are some really good ones.

Chappelle's Show is very biting, non-PC humor, that is also pretty smart at times.

LOST is a great show that stimulates the imagination. Think of all the "theories" that have been produced by fans of the show.

The Simpsons. I think this one speaks for itself, although its a shadow of its former self.

South Park. Again, non-PC, very smart humor.

Again, I can't compare these to shows like "Good Times," "All in the Family," etc... but I think these are legitimately good shows, and shouldn't be included when saying all of today's TV shows are crap, IMO.

I just watched it yesterday, too. Not a great show like I was expecting, but I laugh at almost everything Bill does or says. He's a very funny fellow.

Bill is funny, yeah, but the show overall just doesn't have that timeless element. Everyone comes off really nerdy. I'd just as soon watch Fresh Prince or, hell, Family Ties.
