    Re: Laptops VS. Desktops

Vista doesn't run very well on any machine with less than 2 GB of RAM. This machine only has 1 GB.

It will run, but it will chug and stumble on memory-hungry apps or while multi-tasking. Vista needs nearly 1 GB of RAM just to fire up and run, leaving almost no RAM for anything else.

Vista is the new Microsoft ME -- a bloated, overhyped failure in waiting.

Also it looks like the machine has an integrated video card instead of a separate one, which will further drain RAM. A 128 MB integrated video card with only 1 GB of RAM won't handle many games from 2006 or 2007, if you're interested in gaming on this rig.

Otherwise, the machine has solid specs.

    Take care,
    PK

I'm just curious, am I the only one not having problems with Vista? I have only 1 GB on this laptop and I think it's only 1.7 GHZ, yet I run Vista Basic with no problems. Photoshop, firefox, trillian, AVG all at once with no problems. Is it just premium that can have those problems? Just curious.

I don't understand why people complain about Vista either, of course all I use my computer for is downloading, watching movies and stuff, and for the internet so maybe they're doing different stuff.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
