If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: The Golden Compass
I talked about banning in the context of this movie and the posts about this movie. I didn't talk about anything getting banned outside of this movie.
I could go through and break down the entire progression of posts...but that seems pointless.Comment

How was I wrong about something that had nothing to do with what you said?

Re: The Golden Compass
Didn't mean to imply that I thought it was just happening recently. It's happened quite a bit for the past couple of years. I just meant, in the context of this movie, the writer had to dumb down the topic because of the world we live in.Comment

Ok I agree with that, didn't mean to sound like I was jumping on you or anything I was just nitpicking.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: The Golden Compass
You guys had me worried in page 3."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: The Golden Compass
They were doing a piece on the news yesterday about this, everyone they talked to had no idea there was supposed to be some kind of hidden message, and even after the reporter told them they said they still wouldn't of noticed it.Comment

Re: The Golden Compass
I'll be eager to hear the reviews from folks who have seen this, it got trounced at the theaters this past weekend though I think. I know the only movie I'm interested in seeing is I AM LEGEND for the rest of this year anyways.Last edited by ODogg; 12-09-2007, 10:36 PM.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: The Golden Compass
I really liked this movie. Nicole Kidman looked dropped dead gorgeous as the villainous Marisa, and the little girl was great. Nice supporting job (as usual) by Sam Elliot.Comment

Re: The Golden Compass
I thought this movie was good. Not great, not horrible. It entertained me but doesn't have a clear ending. Obviously, there is a sequel planned and it's more than sequel, it's a clear continuation of the story.
The acting was solid. Nicole Kidman did a wonderful job. I'm usually not a big fan of her but I was left impressed with her work.
I've voiced my opinion on CGI (though I did say it has it's place in the right spots) and the CGI in this movie was fantastic. The demons/souls/creatures were nicely done and never looked out of place.
There were times I felt the story was rushed. It seemed to push through scenes rather suddenly and the story also at times took liberty with it's history. At times I felt like the writer thought I knew the story. I wish he did a better job of explaining things earlier.
It was easy to pick up but I guess I thought it could have been smoother.
Overall, not too bad. I'd say 2 1/2 stars out of 4.Last edited by CMH; 12-18-2007, 06:31 PM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
