    Re: Who's More Famous?

Tyson was know mainly in the USA. He was only known outside of it for a few years due to boxing. Biting Evander's ear off was more of a "shocking" news story kind of thing... outside of the USA now people would probably look at you like "who?"
Tyson was a great fighter, but he'll never be remembered by the mainstream for anything, but Biting Evander's ear off.

As for Hulk Hogan. People still say,"Wrestler." With this younger generation they see him as a TV personality that's not restling related.
He's had Hogan Knows Best on VH1. He'll be co-hosting American Gladiators.

He's bigger and more known than tyson by far. Longevitity of a career does that.

Hogan is International. Tyson is Americana. Plain and Simple. Hogan Wins.

Umm...u need to check urself with that "wrestiling has more fans than boxing"....Boxing is a huge international sport and Tyson was the "Heavyweight Champion of the World", not some WWF/WWE/WCE title.

Heavyweight Champion of the World was and still might be one of the most recognizable titles in all of sports.

One thing that we do have to realize is how far a reach both athletes go. Boxing is further reaching than wrestling. It's in almost every country and is bigger than wrestling. That's what I'd assume. I'd think Mike is more famous because of the reach of boxing.

                Re: Who's More Famous?

I think the question should be is Boxing bigger than Wrestling.......and where is it bigger? Out of the states, boxing is bigger than wrestling. In the states, I can't tell you honestly. You'd get your answer then. Still, even the kids that grow up not seeing have a good idea of who he is. It's the same as saying that Jordan wasn't seen by the kids. Many still know who he is and how great it was. Same with Dr. J, Wilt Chamberlain, and all those other greats.

Hogan. Like someone said - longevity.

Hogan has had longer mainstream exposure in more countries. Tyson is just a side news story these days - Hogan is still a star, who's aired in countries around the world.

                      Re: Who's More Famous?

I have no doubt that it's Hogan. Easy way to prove it is to ask the newest generation. Ask a kid between 6-13 and I would say they will know Hogan 25:1 over Tyson. Take the next age bracket - 14-22 or so.... maybe down to 3 or 4:1, but it's still Hogan.

NOW... is the question who WAS more famous in their prime.... I'd say Tyson.

But, since the question is who IS more famous.... it's Hogan... easily. Landslide.

                          Re: Who's More Famous?

Neither is "by far" more famous. Pretty much anyone born in the 80s or before will know both fairly equally. For how big Hulk was in the 80s, Tyson as a news figure, not popularity wise, was equally big in the 90s. Just about anyone 18 or older has either heard of both or neither.

As for the under 18, Hulk probably has somewhat of an advantage with his show, but it's not like most people wouldn't have heard of Tyson.

The only real difference would probably be in females under 18.

I would say Hogan's prime was the 5 years prior to moving to WCW.
