Okay...well,

...I do know that I should def buy HDMI cables to hook to my PS3 for the "best" picture, right?

no. buy the cheapest one you can find. I just went to Wal-Mart and bought one for 15 bucks or so just to avoid the hassle and to have it right then. Many others buy them at monoprice.com for about 6 bucks I think.

BTW, I just got DirecTV a couple of weeks ago and the HD DVR came with a HDMI cable. So, that's what I use. I probably would have anyway.

I use 3 HDMI cables in my setup,and 1 came with a Samsung DVD player and 2 are from Big Lots ( 6 ft. gold plated for 12 bucks).They work perfectly,passing Hi-Def picture and all digital sound formats.

same here. For some reason my component cable gave a better picture on my HD/DVR set up box than the HDMI.
And for the ps3- Just get the sony HDMI cable. Its at walmart for like 12 bucks. Works beautifully.

From what I've read, HDMI is supposed to better in theory but depending on the equipment, component often looks better. Most people don't really see much difference in visual quality either way. The real benefit to HDMI is only using one cable for both video and sound.

Component with optical sound is great although I've heard that some of the new sound systems will be best with the HDMI cable. My receiver doesn't have an HDMI jack but I'm more than happy with the optical sound anyways. Monoprice.com is your friend. Please tell me you will never pay $100 for a cable again. Huge ripoff.

Yeah, the biggest benefit with HDMI is having HD video and digital audio all in the same cable. It sure does help with clutter.

As far as picture quality, I have not noticed any significant improvment over component with HDMI (I also have not noticed a degrade in quality going to HDMI as you have though).

So, just go with what looks best to you. That is the general rule of thumb for video anyway. If it looks good/better to you, sit back and enjoy it.

Just curious, the majority of what you watch is what? Because if the signal is an analog signal, won't it need to be converted to digital to pass through HDMI and it might be in that conversion that you are losing the quality.

Instead of creating a new thread, I thought I would pose this question here. If anyone is able to offer suggestions or advice, I would appreciate it.

I'm having intermittant interference with my picture and sound. Moreso my picture than sound. The picture itself does not go dark, but instead it almost looks like the picture is breaking up for a few seconds. It'll freeze up at the same time. Regarding the sound, it goes out for a good 5-10 seconds and then resumes as normal.

I was told it might be because I needed a surge supressor. I was just using a cheap $10 one that did nothing to protect my equipment. I invested in a $50 surge supressor and while it made a significant difference, I'm still getting the interference. Will bumping up to the next highest jules on the surge supressor be of any benefit?

Have you tried your tv and sound equipment without a surge protector at all? Just to see if a surge protector is the true source of your problem.

Yeah, I would question the cable provider...mine would do that rarely with non HD cable back at my apt in Michigan. Sometimes it'd be bad for a 5 min period but then get better...i just figured the signal was having issues.
