That's the type of teacher I would have really enjoyed in high school

As a "green ninnie" (I prefer treehugger, but I'm flattered either way), I didn't need any convincing anyway. I mean, I just listen to what the media says and what's happening in a complete vacuum, irrespective of what happened at any other point in time.

Without getting into it too much, had we listened to reason and logic moreso then emotion, we would have many more Nuclear Power Plants and much less reliance on coal and oil.

I believe a total of 4 or 5 people where killed in the Cherynbol (SP?) Meltdown. Yet if you asked anyone without knowledge on the subject they would say thousands or hundreds of thousands.

I agree that we need to switch to nuclear, but it was more than 4 or 5 people that were killed. I think like 50 people died directly because of it but a couple thousand died later from cancer due to the radiation.

Better example imo would be Three Mile Island. Not one person was killed due to that, and the people living close to the plant, were hit with an average dose of an x-ray iirc.

Part of it is probably the fact that both of those events occurred relatively close together, and that's what people remember.

Because commies suck. They made the town members participate in rallies the day after or so.

3 Mile Island was (according to my geology teacher) "a worst case scenario that no longer is possible to happen" (something involving nuclear engineers).

Unfortunately, we can't build a new nuclear plant for about 20 years.

Either way nuclear power creates a problem because of the nuclear waste.

Chernobyl is worse than a few deaths. From Wiki. We will probably never know how bad it affected the people near there

The 2005 report prepared by the Chernobyl Forum, led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Health Organization (WHO), attributed 56 direct deaths (47 accident workers, and nine children with thyroid cancer), and estimated that there may be 4,000 extra deaths due to cancer among the approximately 600,000 most highly exposed and 5,000 among the 6 million living nearby.[3]

They have a new type of reactor that reduces the nuclear waste while at the same time increasing the energy created.

Mostly because of the Soviets. If they would have properly evacuated, it would have been limited to a few deaths.

Well, you have to remember that they had to share the nuclear radiation equally.

If they would've listened to us it would've never happened.

We told them well enough in advance that there was a problem there but they refused to heed our warning.

You cannot trust anything on Wiki when it comes to anything contraversial.

Why not? They usually have references for information on things like that.
