This is a new show on Fox, hooking people up to a lie detector test. The more questions they answer truthfully, the more money they get.

Now I don't get this. The way I heard it, these guys were asked 50 questions before the show even started? Not only that, but I just don't get why you would answer a question untruthfully. I mean, you will be found out by the anti-polygraph machine anyway.

I guess I haven't watched enough of it yet. You East coasters may be able to help me out on the incentive to ever not tell the truth.

What's with the fabricated tension?

"Your answer is.......true." *audience gasps*

If you just admitted that you dumped a baby in a dumpster, why wouldn't the answer be true?

Nevermind, I'm watching this show a bit more, and I see where there can be some pressure. I didn't realize that there were friends/spouses/relatives/colleagues that could be affected by some of these answers.

I smell a news article about a divorce sometime during this season, and a lawsuit following.

I only watched five minutes or so, but, yeah, it doesn't make sense. If you lie, they know. If you just walk away, everyone knows why.

I realized you can only choose to walk away before the question is asked, not after.

If you just admitted that you dumped a baby in a dumpster, why wouldn't the answer be true?

Yeah, the questions that are answered truthfully where it negatively affects the contestant aren't really as tense as the other ones, because you're right. It's just... weird.

The show looked okay. It has plenty of replay value, in the sense that I feel it should be on more than one hour a week (especially with the incredibly long pauses at all times during this show). At least it's better than most shows on Fox (except House).

I was really interested in watching the show. But the stupid look the contestant gets on their face before answering and the long pause before you find out if it is true or not killed it for me. I turned it off after 15 minutes.

That's my biggest beef with shows like these, the long pauses are so annoying. Especially when someone admits to something crazy/shocking/etc. and we have to wait 2 minutes for the voiceover to say true.

If they can fix that, I wouldn't mind watching. (if nothing is on)

Their version of the polygraph is crap. I had to take one to get hired. You are given the questions before hand. You go over what the questions will be. Then you get hooked up and they ask you basic yes/no questions to get an idea of what a truthful response would look like. Then you get into the questions you discussed before and afterwards they compare your control group with the target group to see if there is a huge jump.

Nothing is done on the spot like that.

I think it is actually kind of funny... but I felt really bad for that wife!! But anyways- they also give you the choice to change your answer at the show... so if they answered no on the test and then realized that was wrong... they can change their answer to yes on the show... I think that is weird. I agree with the part about why lie- it is gonna come out. It seems like a good way to ruin your marriage and reputation at the same time!!

And that's why they've made it so hard to get the $500,000. I still think there's a littl bit of "I think I can beat the lie detector" that factors into the show. That, and the question of "what cost will you give to win the $500,000?" That first contestant pretty much ruined his marriage (at least from what I could see) and walked away with nothing.

I thought it was a little better than I thought it would be. But I'm with the rest of you that they can eliminate the pauses when they've already said yes. Why would someone lie and say "yeah, I think I have a gambling problem"? I don't mind the pause when someone says "no". You have to create a little suspense.

Maybe it was just the board op looking for the button that led to the pause . . .

Ugh....Lie detectors are easily beatable. That is why they are not admissable in court. It is so stupid.

The funniest question was when they asked the guy did he put off having children with his wife cause he can't see her as a lifetime partner. Dude was like "True!" I personally found that entertaining.
