I thought that was kinda funny too. But the tension is a little too over the top and fabricated. And it seems they encourage contestants to be lively or more personable in the same way they do on Deal or No Deal. At least with that game, regardless of how irritating the contestants can be, there's the game of playing against the odds that's usually interesting. I thought Moment of Truth would be a lot better; wasn't horrible but wasn't that good either. Long pauses got on my nerves. And the host is pretty bland

Re: The Moment of Truth
The lie detector was taken before they were on the show, they are just being told the results of the lie detector on the air basically.Their version of the polygraph is crap. I had to take one to get hired. You are given the questions before hand. You go over what the questions will be. Then you get hooked up and they ask you basic yes/no questions to get an idea of what a truthful response would look like. Then you get into the questions you discussed before and afterwards they compare your control group with the target group to see if there is a huge jump.
Nothing is done on the spot like that.Comment

Re: The Moment of Truth
I was waiting for somebody to bring this up.
The way I look at this show, is I cannot understand why anybody would want to go on it. I understand you win money, but chances are there is going to be at least one question that puts you in the doghouse of somebody close to you. Now if the money is worth more than the marriage, ok then they got that. I only see negative things coming out of this show. If you aren't lying on several things, congrats, you aren't a racist, you are at least a decent person or decent spouse or whatever. If you are caught on anything, or the poly-graph screws up, you come out of it looking like a horrible person, with potentially horrible consequences. I wonder when we shall hear about the first story where a contestant lost their job, spouse, parental custody rights, friends, et cetera.Comment

Re: The Moment of Truth
Please name one where the results of a lie detector are admissible in court?
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court set a standard for what they wanted to see, but they aren't admissible in MA yet.
EDIT
Okay New Mexico is a freak state in some circumstances.Last edited by MassNole; 01-25-2008, 08:58 AM.Comment
