    ABBA

I was listening to the radio today while driving and discovered that the local classic rock station decided it was a great time to broadcast a week-long ABBA Marathon. I remember from my American Studies class back in college (when we did the music unit) that ABBA is the most successful band of all time. Not in the U.S., but world wide. As if that wasn't bad enough, the DJ said that the "ABBA Teens" were a huge world wide success in the late 90's doing covers of ABBA songs.

My question is this. Most terrible bands either become one-hit wonders (Billy Ray Cyrus) or last a few years and fade into obscurity (Backstreet Boys). How in the hell does a band this bad not only last for well over ten years (and would have kept going had they not broken up) but also become the most successful band ever? Maybe it's a matter of personal preference, and I am simply in the minority on this one, but I can't believe how terrible they are.

ABBA's "Take a Chance on me."

Well "take a chance on me" was a pretty good song I thought but yes their brand of bubblegum almost disco type music is just BLAH.

According to Wikipedia, they were reportedly offered 1 billion dollars to reunite and do a 100 show world tour. So someone thought that they would make money (over 1 billion dollars) on only 100 shows. It's insane. I wish I could release bad music and make that much money. Maybe I should try.

Growing up in that era, Abba was huge and had alot of great songs. I really liked them. It may seem silly now but they ruled.

At one time, ABBA was Sweden's greatest import outside of Volvo. That's how popular they were. I love Disco music, so I'm a big fan.

                          Basically.

Now that we have people from the '7os running what is in our commercials, you hear alot of songs from that era now. Comcast is running one with the quintessential '7os song 'More, More, More' by Andrea True.

You need to understand that disco ruled the pop airwaves in the late 1970s, and the Bee Gees and ABBA were the highest-quality disco bands during that era. K.C. and the Sunshine Band might nose into that discussion, too.

That's why ABBA was so huge. Plus the two chicks were hot. Smokin' Swedish bodies.

I can vividly remember being six years old in '77 and the Bee Gees being my favorite group.
