Especially the first couple years of Power Rangers. I mean it was like watching a live action Voltron except done by a local acting troupe.

Exactly...Amy Jo Johnson had it goin on!

The acting was horrific. It made Saved By The Bell look like award winning TV. Man were those plots pretty cheesy. Can't believe I watched this for a whole year before realizing it was dumb.

Nope not Shirt Tales. Man, I can't remember this for the life of me, seems like it's on the tip of my tongue though. It was kind of like a cross between Warner Bros shorts with Hannah Barbera like animation. I am pretty sure the cartoons themselves preceded the 80s (like I said, they showed Mighty Mouse in that block too). The dog was like a sherrif or something, and these two little creatures kept giving him hell.


Edit: AHHHHH DEPUTY DAWG! Yep Deputy Dawg, just did a quick Google search. The block was a collection of Terrytoons, featuring Mighty Mouse, Deputy Dawg, and Heckle & Jeckle (those two crows).

It was the more boring intelectual (I was a kid at the time, so it was alot of talk and plot more than action) counterpart to the lion Voltron. My older brother like the space voltron better but everyone my age of course like the 5 Lions.

I think Pidge, the smaller guy with the glasses in the 5 lion voltron (green lion?) had a cousin who ran a part of the space voltron. They would have them interact from time to time.

I have Macross (The Rick Hunter-chapter of Robotech to alot of us Americans) on DVD. I watched it when I was a tyke, but I was too small to actually know what was going on. I will never watch the DVDs again because of the open ending. That pissed me off for days. Macross was that ish. But the soap opera that went on that led to the open ending was rough for me. Damn them. And to just skip onto another chapter of the series made it even worse!

Apparently, I wasn't the only one that felt slighted because they tried a few times to make up for it and I think one of their tries did a good job, but I never got my hands on the dvd.

All I know is that Rick was a butt clown. I would've had Misa and Lin Minmay mud wrestle over me.

This thread reminded me of this Superman cartoon file I had around. I can't remember where I got it. It's pretty good quality (there's a DL link there as well). Best I can tell it's from 1942. The smoothness of the movement is incredible and factor in that this was all hand drawn, like the Looney Tunes work, makes you appreciate it even more:

And who can't forget this little chumpy right here! I used to watch this every morning before school...cornball rap song by Johnny Arcade and all! I didn't mind the first or the second format really, because I just liked that there was something about vidoegames on tv, period.

Sadly enough it's probably videogames that killed the toy infommercial boom of the 80's and 90's. Videogames killed the Cartoon and toy stars.

All of the posts here are bringing back some memories. I used to watch HE-Man like others here and collected the toys. Looking back at it now though it sure does have a certain homo-erotic quality to it. Fat Albert was great to watch, but like Chris Rock used to say it was the most racist thing when you though about it. You had that guy with a hat over his head and streotypical jive talk. My favorite was woody woodpecker though. Throw in Chillie Willie and it was a good day.
