Christopher Nolan's first film, Following, has a BD release date of December 11th:

I seem to remember it being a 4:3 film though. It would be my first ever one with vertical black bars.

There are movies I was going to buy with my assortment of DVD's that I can trade in, but they're not available at any BB stores around me (The Sandlot, Paycheck, This Means War, Man on a Ledge, Equilibrium, and a few more).
    Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

You can get The Sandlot pretty cheap on Amazon. That's where I got it.

I'm merely trying to take advantage of getting rid of my DVD's. That's why I held off on getting films like School of Rock until this week came about again.

I almost couldn't find Big Daddy (BB.com said the store didn't have it, but I found it in the bargain bin), so there's a chance that they still might exist somewhere in the store. I just have to keep my eyes open.

I actually do remember seeing The Sandlot on Blu-ray at Best Buy in the past before I started buying Blu-rays. Haven't seen it there in years though. I'm sure it will pop up there again eventually.

Best Buy never had Last Action Hero on Blu-ray before. I bought it at Barnes & Noble for $12.99. I walk into Best Buy a few weeks ago, and there it was for $7.99. lol.

Blzer, you don't have any movies that aren't the aspect ratio of your TV?

            Or maybe I misunderstood.

Looks like Sony stopped production of Coach Carter. Sold my copy a few years ago and can't find another at a somewhat reasonable price.

EDIT: Down from 29.99 to $13.82 on amazon may have to go with that

Just don't expect it to be Saving Private Ryan. The battle scenes I find to be just as effective and realistic as SPR but this movie isn't a balls to the wall war film. It has many slower scenes filled with character narration that can be a bit overdone at times which tends to be a Malick trademark in all his movies.

Since it's based on the battle in the Pacific the war scenes are not as frenetic and is based more on the point of view of the soldier and the fear they are feeling which I find more effective. And the cinematography is gorgeous.

The best analogy I can give is that TTRD is Alien and SPR is Aliens. If you prefer the slow boil of Alien over the more fast paced chaotic Aliens then you will prefer TTRD over SPR.

I don't think I could part with Apocalypse Now as my favorite "war"-movie. Still need to pick up TRL because Criterion is always on point.

I love Apocalypse Now but I've never considered that a true war film. More like a standalone story that happens to be set during the Vietnam War.

All of my movies have an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 (16:9) or greater, which is what most all native HDTV's are at. I think Following is around 1.33:1 (4:3), which would mean left and right vertical black bars. Of course, I have plenty of films which have top and bottom horizontal black bars.

By the way, I went to my Best Buy tonight, and they totally re-ordered everything. Now all of the DVD's and Blu-rays are together. I was able to find This Means War and Man on a Ledge. No luck on anything like Cellular, Paycheck, or Funny People... among other films. They wouldn't take back my Fracture DVD because they said it's a Blockbuster copy, even though I specifically remember buying it at Gamestop alongside Casino Royale several Black Fridays ago.

Oh, don't worry - I know what Malick'd movies are like and know that it won't be an action-driven war movie. Im actually real excited because I know it'll be a slower going, character and story driven war movie.

The Alien/Aliens comparison seems legitimate from what I've read.

True, hence the quotations. Still, from the stories I've heard it seems like a valid (though obviously exaggerated) account of some of the things that went on during that war.

Plus I loved reading Heart of Darkness in school.

The Bestbuy trade in program is draining my wallet, ouch :-)

love getting all these movies though, and being able to cut down my regular dvd collection

No kidding. I bought 15 movies for probably a little over $200.

No matter for me, though. I don't know how else I can get anything out of these DVD's that I already own/want on Blu, and I'm nearing $2500 for the year to re-up my Premier Silver membership.

Guess I'm on the bench til Black Friday.

Edit: Was able to snag Coach Carter for $11 on Amazon (3rd party seller)
