Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Thanks Blzer. Great info.I'm not sure what your display names them, but you're probably on a default "Dynamic" setting, that's absolutely destroying the life and look of your television. The contrast, black adjust, dynamic contrast, backlight, sharpness, and color settings are probably dialed way up and need some adjusting. Likewise, it's probably set on a Cool tint, which isn't a natural look (look for either a Normal or Warm tint for more natural colors). Then there's probably more tint or color calibration that you can do in detailed settings, but the important thing is to lower those first sliders quite a bit. I mean, contrast can stay pretty high up, but you want to avoid white crush and such.
Your backlight and sharpness are probably the first two things that need to go down, though. Sharpness (as well as edge-enhancement) are unnecessary and just destroy the better image that your TV can display because they bring out a halo effect that is distracting to the eyes (my sharpness is set to 0 on my TV). The backlight is exactly that... it brightens both your whites and your blacks. Find a setting with your backlight that gives you jet-black in jet-black appropriate areas, then use your brightness setting until you can differentiate your blacks. Or do it the other way... use backlight till you get the whites you want, then use brightness until you find jet-black. Contrast is just separation of whites and blacks, but again, you want to avoid it maxing out for loss of detail reasons.
Overall, find another default setting like Movie or Standard and adjust from there. Supposedly, it's worth the $300 to get your television professionally calibrated if you're looking toward the best possible TV image that you can get. There are many options to choose from once you buy your TV, it's just up to you to decide how you're going to utilize them.
BTW my tv is 720p with hdmi.Comment

EG, I think I'll be in the same boat when I come around to buying it, but the end result is... I am going to come around to buying it. If you are selling yours, let me know and name a selling price (under $25.86Got Hancock from Netflix to see if the movie got any better from the first time I saw it over the summer. The movie is still dog ****, and the transfer was quite ****ty for Blu-ray IMO. The problem lied whenever Hancock flew around, it looked so fake in HD, literally too clear.

Guess I read intros too quickly... damn crazy eyes!

Oh well, I'll still find a time to buy it. I'm still thinking about which three Blu-rays (four would be overkill) that I want for Christmas. There is a battle among The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Burn After Reading, WALL-E, and Hancock. The Dark Knight and Iron Man are givens, but if I can find a place to buy Iron Man for under $20 (Walmart had it for $15 but was already sold out by the time I wanted to go), then I'll probably go for Burn After Reading and Hancock, and wait for that WALL-E price drop.
EDIT: Wow, looks like Iron Man is still listed as $15.00 on Walmart. Printing and price matching at Best Buy!Last edited by Blzer; 11-29-2008, 10:50 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Yeah, but I'm not a fan of shipping, or bills on my card. My mom loves to review all of my statements and hates when I'm throwing more "I'm buying this piece of technological equipment" in her face, especially when it comes around finals. Yes, she is the reason I am restricted to a 23" LCD and an HTiB. But hell, what I've learned from her is she has raised me terrifically thus far, and I'm guessing a few years down the road I'll find a good reason for her actions with regard to these purchases as well.
Besides, I edited my last post... saw that it's still listed as $15.00 at Walmart and I'm going to go ahead and price match it at Best Buy.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

In reference to Amazon after taxes & shipping Amazon stills beats the prices of BB, CC & all other retailers. Love Amazon.Yeah, but I'm not a fan of shipping, or bills on my card. Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Woo, I just got Beowulf and The Warriors HD-DVDs and now I'm finally done purchasing HD-DVDs. I can't wait to watch these, especially The Warriors, a movie I've heard a ton about throughout my life but never got a chance to see.
I've watched one HD-DVD so far out of the 60 I've bought LOL. I'm very happy the prices that I got these films at, its been great deal after great deal. I'm also pretty excited I'm personally content now too and can stop scouring the net for them
The Blu-Ray standalone prices still too high for me right now, hopefully by next year the prices are more manageable for me (not going to get an obsolete player). I still have a lot of catching up to do with DVDs and HD-DVDs until then. I do have an HDMI spot on my Onkyo receiver waiting till then
