Some movies coming out on Blu-ray that I've been waiting for for a while:

    Dodgeball (12/9/08)
    Dumb & Dumber (12/9/08)
    King Kong (1/20/09)
    The Bourne Collection (1/27/09)
    Office Space (2/3/09)

Can't wait for these! Now if only Stand By Me would come out on Blu.

      Hancock gets a 3.5 from Blu-Ray.com

Hancock is a solid, but not spectacular, film, one that is worth the effort thanks to a surprisingly focused and meaningful story. Parts of it work, others don't, but the underlying themes make the Hancock character one of the more interesting in recent memory. Will Smith turns in an adequate performance as the film's title character, and the film also features a seemingly endless supply of impressive visuals, if not a bit obscured by the jerky camera movements. Sony's Blu-ray presentation is certainly good, but not quite the reference material one might expect of a brand-new, effect-laden Will Smith blockbuster. Both the video and audio are well above average, but both seem lacking that last bit of polish to push them over the top and into the upper-tier of Blu-ray transfers. Likewise, the supplemental package is fine, certainly less than expected, but the material included is of a high quality. Hancock is an enjoyable summer popcorn movie with an unexpected and welcome depth to its main character, and is at least worth your Blu-ray rental dollars, and the disc is good enough to warrant a purchase by fans.

        B-R.com scores Wanted 4.0/5.0

Wanted offers action viewers something new, something bold, something more thrilling and engaging than the dime-a-dozen action flicks that tend to bore audiences with repetitive action sequences and "been there, done that" special effects. The film never tries to tackle social, moral, or political issues underneath its surface. For the most part, it is what it is, and that is one of the reasons why the film works rather well. Perhaps not destined to be classic, Wanted nevertheless delivers a solid story with a nice twist, first-rate action, groundbreaking stunts and effects, and generally good performances both in front of and behind the camera. Universal's Blu-ray release of this summer blockbuster is another fine effort from the studio. Featuring great picture quality, a deafening reference soundtrack, and a nice assortment of bonus materials, the disc is a must-own for fans. Wanted receives a solid recommendation.

The Dark Knight scores 5.0/5.0 from Blu-Ray.com

Most superhero stories have relevance to politics and current events, and The Dark Knight can certainly be interpreted as a strong moral commentary on our troubled times. The telecommunications issue, terrorism, fighting evil and public perception are all directly addressed. The message appears to be that saving innocent life is the absolute priority for leadership. In pursuing that agenda, Batman resorted to a type of wiretapping and allowed his image to be forever tarnished. He even welcomed his fall from grace, recognizing early on that he could never fight evil effectively and remain popular to the public. Press and citizens in a free society will easily pick apart leaders making tough decisions and fighting tough fights--partially because those decisions and fights are not going to be popular--there is no perfect way to make those choices and execute those battles--and partially because there is no other visible lightning rod for public perception. In devising the story, Nolan hit upon a truth that the entire press corps seems to have forgotten: principle is more important than popularity. Having a squeaky clean image and saying all the right things is no substitute for the willingness or character to fight evil.

But regardless of whether you like the politics of The Dark Knight or prefer to just zone out and watch the mayhem, Warner's BD is a must-have for your collection. The film is truly unique and riveting, and Warner did a great job integrating the IMAX footage for 1080p. Highest recommendations.

Wanted kinda sucked. I'm passing on that, but I'm getting Hancock.

Anyone seen any BF deals for Hancock yet? Can't find them anywhere (if there are any, considering it's brand new).

Band of Brothers scores perfect 5.0 from Blu-Ray.com

"Band of Brothers" is a masterpiece of filmmaking, condensing years worth of material into ten manageable segments, each with a story, a meaning, and a history all their own, the series telling the story of arguably the most important events the world has ever seen. Easy Company, though many faces changed over the years, was at the forefront of it all; their actions and their courage forever altered the world, spearheading the fight for freedom from Fascism in Europe. "Band of Brothers" combines intense action with harrowing and often heartbreaking drama, the series a highly emotional experience viewed as a tribute to those men depicted therein. This spectacular and significant series arrives on Blu-ray in a first-class package. Featuring a video quality that is true to the source, an incredibly detailed and lifelike soundtrack, and some impressive supplements, "Band of Brothers" on Blu-ray is a set that is a must-own, and it receives my highest recommendation.

Has anyone heard anything about Rounders on Blu-Ray? I've been holding off on updating mine (my crappy DVD version is not anamorphic widescreen, so it doesn't look good on the HDTV), but I'd rather get a version on Blu vs. the collector's regular DVD edition.

Have had Jarhead and The Kingdom for months. Both were/are solid HD-DVD releases. Glad they finally made it to blu.

I would just get the DVD. With older movies, I dont see that much of a difference between the DVD version and the Bluray. At least not enough difference to justify paying 10-15 bucks more.

Normally I would agree with you because alot of older movies do have have BR versions that are nothing special but movies like the Godfather saga, The Rock, Blade Runner and Face Off are a serious grade above the DVD versions. It's always good to look at reviews online before committing to older movies.
