I got Band of Brothers in the mail today. Now all I'm waiting on are Kung Fu Hustle and I ordered Shinobi today (11 bucks) and my Panny player shipped today from Amazon so that should be here by Friday. Hell yes.

Shoot, well if I could find someone that could pick it up for me at that price I would be pretty tempted to pay them plus extra for their trouble. Sin City is one of my favorite movies, besides Shawkshank Redemption, and Ive been waiting for Sin City to hit on BR for what seems like forever. There's a franchise up here in Toronto that's called Future Shop, it's like a Best Buy and they had Sin City for $12 CDN which was kind of weird because is was the cheapest BD there by at least $5 and there wasn't alot of copies available so I don't know why they discounted it so much.
One caveat with the disc however. The PQ and SQ are excellent and it actually has DTS-MA which is not advertised on the disc. The sound rocks but there's one problem. With about a quarter of the dialogue passages there's a buzzing thru the center channel that occurs and I thought it was my sound system but I played it on another system and then exchanged the disc and it's still thier. The Hidef version was on TV last week and I caught some of it and that buzzing was there just not as evident as the BD (probably because it was DD5.1) so it probably is the source material.Comment

Patience my friend, Blurays are like computers and TV's. They only go down in price the longer you wait. If the price was cheap in Canada this quick I'm sure it won't be too expensive when it hits the US in a few months and hopefully the next batch made fixes the buzzing problem. It is a bare bones disc so they will probably double dip relatively quickly. I've noticed BR movies that are several years old dip down in price pretty quick because many people who buy BR's usually just buy the recent movies and keep the DVD version of any older movie they have. For me it's the Godfather collection which is like $80+ right now. I'm dying to get it but will wait a year or so because I know it will be going for under $50 by then.Shoot, well if I could find someone that could pick it up for me at that price I would be pretty tempted to pay them plus extra for their trouble. I hear ya, but lower then 12.00? I found a guy who will sell it to me for 17.00 shipped which is pretty damn good and I just bought Dark Knight from him and it got here quickly and in perfect condition so he is a solid seller. I may end up waiting since like you said, maybe the buzzing will get fixed for the US release (although Im not really holding my breath on that one). Other then the audio complaint, the video quality is top notch then I take it?Patience my friend, Blurays are like computers and TV's. They only go down in price the longer you wait. The picture is top notch, one of the best transfers I've seen and the audio is otherwise excellent with deep thumping bass and a good dynamic range. With this dialogue problem I don't know if it's from the source material but I don't remember being distracted by it watching the regular DVD but maybe now hearing it with DTS-MA it's just more apparent.
It sounds more like radio static than a buzzing, it's hard to describe. It was at it's worse when Mickey Rourke was in the alley kneeling down talking to the hit man before he kills him. If you remember that part and have the DVD then check it out and see if it has any static. When one of the characters is narrating the dialogue is crystal clear.
But like I said it has no special features so if that matters to you then I would wait because this is guaranteed to be double dipped in the near future.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 12-31-2008, 12:19 PM.Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
I picked up The Shining and A Clockwork Orange today at Wal-Mart for about 30 bucks. I'm pretty excited to see The Shining in HD and I've never seen Clockwork before, but I like all of Kubrick's stuff I've seen so far.
Anyway, while I was out looking for blu-rays I thought I would look for an HDMI splitter for my panny and xbox. I couldn't find anything, other than a switch, but I was sickened by how much all these HDMI cables are costing people who don't know any better. The cheapest one at Wal-Mart was 35-40 bucks. Then don't even get me started on the prices at Circuit City and Crutchfield. Freaking crazy.
So, do any of you guys know of a good splitter? Or would a switch work better to give me better quality over a splitter? Or does it not matter? I'm also wondering what version of HDMI cable I need to get for my panny. Right now I have on HDMI cable that I'm sharing between my HD-DVD player and my xbox. It works fine for my xbox, but for some reason my HD-DVD player has trouble recognizing it and I have to do a little dance every time for it to connect to my TV right. Is the problem with the player or with the cable? If its with the cable, I want to make sure I get the right HDMI cable for my Panny that is coming this weekend.

Fresh, you will have to spend a few bucks on a HDMI switch. You can't go cheap on this piece or else you will regret doing so. Monoprice has them and for around $40, you can get a decent one. Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Yeah, I second this, when I purchased mine I actually paid 100.00 for it and it came with 4-5 HDMI cables, a remote and is powered. Ive never had a problem with it, I attempted to find it earlier today but I bought it long enough ago that its no longer available apparently.Fresh, you will have to spend a few bucks on a HDMI switch. Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
You can get a cheap HDMI switch as opposed to getting a cheap component switch though. HDMI is all or nothing, if you use the switch, and you get picture and sound, then you're fine. It's digital, so there's no loss in sound/video quality.Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
I must have gotten a cheap one (build wise) previously then because I had the picture cut in and out and at times it wouldnt register when I had the PS3 on but ever since upgrading to the 100.00 model Ive never had the problem, and I was using the exact same HDMI cable each time.Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Oh, I'm sure there's bad ones out there. But the nature of HDMI is that it's all or nothing, where with normal cables there's some loss of quality when it's split or run though another device. That's why most like HDMI due to it being digital.I must have gotten a cheap one (build wise) previously then because I had the picture cut in and out and at times it wouldnt register when I had the PS3 on but ever since upgrading to the 100.00 model Ive never had the problem, and I was using the exact same HDMI cable each time.Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Yeah, it had to be a cheap one as the one I have now doesnt give me problems ever. Its a life saver as my CRTV only has 1 HDMI port so having a 4 port switch makes things much easier so I can run my PS3 and my Directv HD box all hooked up without having to switch anything.Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
so i finally saw both BATMAN BEGINS and TDK. (bought both on blu-ray)
WOW.
great movies and both looked excellent. i think both are equally great movies. i honestly wouldnt put one above the other. i love how nolan explains everthing in his movies. why the joker does what he does, how batman created the batcave (which i always wondered and wanted to know), how he learned his fighting technique and all that.
GREAT STUFF! I LOVE IT!"on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.yea but will they take psn cards
